BCDS is actively recruiting former USMC NCO’s (E6 and above) with platform instructor background  Position responsibilities include:  Develop language and culture lesson plans and updates in accordance with the USMC Systems Approach to Training (SAT) User’s Guide to prepare Marines for deployment to Area of Operations (AO). The individual shall be integrated as a full member of the MEF Advisor Training Staff with priority of focus being integration of relevant language and culture instruction into Transition Team course curriculum and technical advice for course curriculum, Program of Instruction (POI) and training materials for the courses of instruction. Serve as the principle culture advisor to the ATC OIC, providing expertise in the operational use of foreign nation culture from the perspective of COIN and advising operations. Serve as the senior member of the ATC Language and Culture department, providing direction and management of culture and language SME’s. Work with external agencies (Center of Advanced Operational Culture and Language, Training and Education Command (TECOM); Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) Foreign Language Program Manager (PM); and Defense Language Institute (DLI) to ensure that curriculum supports goals and requirements. Assist in developing culture and language-related Mission Essential Task Lists (METLs). Develop classes ranging from beginning level to more advanced levels in specified culture and language given guidance and direction from the ATC staff. Program shall be in conjunction with Center for Advanced Operational Culture Learning (CAOCL), local civilian academic language instruction courses and computer-based resources. Conduct culture analysis classes and other collective events. Conduct the individual and collective event s referenced in NAVMC 3500.65. Individual events include, but are not limited to; applying operational culture, communicating through an interpreter, communicating non-verbally, use of tactical language, and interacting with a foreign population. Practical applications/performance steps are included. Performance steps include, but are not limited to; identification of the five dimensions of operational culture, the meaning of gestures, body language, interpreter use, employment of appropriate commands, identification of foreign customs/courtesies, and definition of cultural stress. Advise ATC staffs on effective cultural training TTP, cultural orientation and familiarization specific to MEF areas of interest provided to the Military Advisor Team, other Advisors, and/or Marines assigned to Cooperative Engagement or Stability and Support Operations (SASO). Assist in the coordination of cultural training activities required for on-going and future classes and courses. Continuously refine the cultural accuracy of scenario based training exercises to include; instruction to role players, construct of atmospheric props, and layout and conduct of simulated Afghan villages. Manage implementation and integration of language and culture instruction into the advisor training continuum. Provide technical input to training personnel for development and updates of cultural training curriculum, Program of Instruction (POI) and training materials for the courses of instruction and corresponding documentation. Provide cultural operations instruction to training teams including how to provide a positive influence on local populace within the assigned Area of Operations (AO). Serve at the Subject Matter Expert on customs and culture and how training, techniques, procedures, policies and plans may be received. Assign lessons, correct faulty pronunciation, improper tone pattern, and structure by using intensive drills of various kinds. Schedule and review lesson materials and tests to determine student’s progress. Track progress and establish a required competency level to all deploying members
of a transition team. Administer tests to Marines as required, assess proficiency and evaluate/ensure standards are being achieved.
Advise supervisors (MEF Staff) on progress of students. Provide individual lessons to high-ranking officials as required. This position may require travel to alternate training venues. Performance of duties shall be in a combination of classroom and field conditions.

Civilian Education: REQUIRED: High School diploma. DESIRED: Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Conversational knowledge of Dari and Pashtu.

Military Education DESIRED: Professional Military Education in accordance with service requirements for candidate’s rank. Graduate of Military Instructional Management School Instructor’s Course and Curriculum Development Course or similar experience. Train the Trainer School (T3S) within last four years from date of hire a plus.

Military/Government Experience: REQUIRED: Military experience of E-6 or above. Experience as platform instructor.

DESIRED: Former Military Advisor, military experience in fields of operational culture or intelligence.
Other: At least one year of experience in positions requiring the application of instructional skills and techniques and effective communication with students is preferred.

Clearance: REQUIRED: Secret Clearance.
