Relationship with allies key to maintaining competitive edge, says SF commander

By Joe Lacdan, Army News Service July 12, 2019

WASHINGTON -- The Army's Special Forces or "Green Berets" are strengthening the Mongolian military through $23 million of funding to a mobile training team, a special operations commander said Wednesday morning.

As the threat of Russia and China continues to grow, relationships with partner nations like Mongolia take increased importance as the Army looks to consolidate its competitive advantage in the Asia-Pacific region, explained Col. Owen Ray, 1st Special Forces Group commander.

"The threats that we do face, everything from counter-terrorism to active competition with a near-peer competitor, are growing," said Ray during a media roundtable at the Pentagon. "The value is our enduring relationships that strengthen and assure our Allies and partners."

The Mongolian army requested the training unit to better support their U.N. peacekeeping deployments. This training team can travel throughout Mongolia's countryside and remote regions to train Mongolian Soldiers on small-unit tactics, medical tasks, communications, platoon-level mission planning, base security and convoy operation

How to become a police officer

Being a police officer is a meaningful and impactful way to serve a community. Becoming a police officer doesn’t rely heavily on formal education; in fact, a high school diploma is often the minimum formal education required. An associate’s, bachelor’s or graduate degree is rarely mandatory. Instead, extensive and specialized training is required. This training is often provided by police academies on the local, regional or state level.
So why get a law enforcement degree? Two reasons: Potential higher pay and better advancement opportunities. This guide focuses on how education can help an aspiring police officer realize their dreams.
Military experience is well regarded by law enforcement agencies and police departments. Familiarity with firearms, mental toughness, physical conditioning, discipline and an understanding of command structure and culture are all benefits that come with hiring a recruit with military experience.

The Tiny Home Experience

This is to start funding for a non-typical business that does not have a comparable example on the market. Banks are scared and people are loving the idea so I am reaching out to the people to make the Tiny Home Experience a reality. This camp will have multiple types of tiny homes available to rent and have a RV style campground for people already living small in either RV's or Road Mobile Tiny Homes. We will be building a standard construction tiny home, a cob home, a School Bus Conversion (Schooly), a Container home, and a tree house. We will add options as funds become available.
Tiny home benefit the planet through reduced carbon footprints, they make the people living in them happy, they teach others that a simple life with less stuff is easier and allows for more experiences in life.
This camp will benefit the people thinking about tiny house living to see what the lifestyle is like and help people decide if this is the choice for them. The Camp will also be a place where tiny homes will be welcomed. I plan to build this out to have displays of a variety of sustainable living technologies available that can be integrated into Tiny Home Living.
Every tenth home built will be donated to a homeless veteran through connections in Veterans Organizations and the Veterans Administration to ensure these homes go to worthy Veterans.
If you are ready to see this become a reality please donate and share this GoFundMe with your network. Please get the word out.
Thank You,
Kurt

Celebrate Independence Day with “America the Beautiful”

Written by Katharine Lee Bates and composed by Samuel A. Ward, “America the Beautiful” is one of the most well-known and beloved American patriotic songs. The song, sung by the Hillsdale College Choir in this video, celebrates the natural beauty and the “patriot dream” of the United States.

Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.”

All military spouses can now apply for professional relicensing fee reimbursement

By: Karen Jowers   4 days ago

Moving from one state to another costs money for spouses who must get re-certified in their professions, and all the services are helping by reimbursing up to $500 in those costs. (Lt. Cmdr. Jim Remington/Navy)
Navy spouses – like spouses in the other services – can now apply for reimbursement of up to $500 in costs for relicensing and recertification each time they relocate with their service member.
Spouses can be reimbursed for costs for getting re-licensed/re-certified in their profession after they move to a new state because of their service member’s permanent change of station.

Benefits for ‘blue water’ veterans finalized after years-long fight

By: Leo Shane III   6 days ago

President Donald Trump signed legislation granting presumptive status for disability benefits to an estimated 90,000 Navy veterans who served in the seas around Vietnam during the war. (AP Photo)
Late Tuesday night, President Donald Trump signed the legislation, which grants presumptive status for disability benefits to an estimated 90,000 Navy veterans who served in the seas around Vietnam during the war.
Unlike their fellow service members stationed on the ground and on inland waterways, those veterans faced additional paperwork barriers to prove exposure to toxic defoliants during their deployments, even after developing identical serious cancers and respiratory illnesses.

"Instead of providing adequate care to our veterans who have fought and suffered for their country, government officials who have the power to provide them with care are needlessly debating a settled issue and placing the onus on veterans to prove that they were harmed. America owes our veterans a debt, and we are failing in our duty to pay that debt."
By: Rear Adm. Christopher W. Cole, National Executive Director of the Association of the United States Navy
Advocates had long complained that put an unfair burden on the aging veterans, since water monitoring records from decades ago were inaccessible or non-existent. The higher proof of exposure blocked most so-called “blue water” veterans from eligibility for benefits, which can total several thousand dollars a month.
A federal appeals court in January overturned Veterans Affairs officials’ policy of denying the Navy veterans claims, and lawmakers followed in subsequent months with a legislative fix to reinforce the legal ruling.
Last week, VA Secretary Robert Wilkie said during a Senate hearing that even before passage of the new legislation, department staff have already begun processing the claims.
“We are working with the Department of Defense and the Department of Navy to make sure that we have those adequate lists (of eligible veterans),” he said. “I cannot tell you now the numbers. I can tell you we are working on them. I will promise to come back to (Congress) if we need additional resources.”
