War Dog History

The capability they (Military Working Dogs) bring to the fight cannot be replicated by man or machine. By all measures of performance their yield outperforms any asset we have in our inventory. Our Army (and military) would be remiss if we failed to invest more in this incredibly valuable resource.”– GENERAL DAVID H. PETRAEUS, USA

Hiring and Retaining Veterans with Disabilities

The Veteran Advantage:
Hiring and Retaining Veterans with Disabilities
More and more employers are stepping up to hire veterans with disabilities. They are loyal, team-oriented employees with job-ready skills, tested leadership abilities and a strong, mission-focused work ethic. This guide will help you navigate the often-unclear terrain of recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans with disabilities.

Based on proven, best practices for hiring and retaining veterans, this guide is a map to empowering your organization to become a thought leader in the veteran employment  space, while making it easier to do the right thing for the country and your company.

Sporting Clays Event and Bio

https://flyingrabbitsportingclays.com/

So my name is David Snipes I grew up hunting East Tennessee with my dad and family. I went duck hunting for the first time with a cousin and since that day have been hooked on Waterfowl/Wing Shooting. I joined the Marine Corp in 2008 after a failed attempt at college like many other vets that ended up on active duty. I am an 0311 by trade and served 8 years of service, I was with 3rd BN 6th MAR I Co from 2008-2012 and deployed 2 times to Marjah, Afghanistan, where I unfortunately received a Purple Heart. I re-enlisted in 2012 while OCONUS for Marine Corps Security Forces where I went to Charlie Co and deployed to Cuba and Bahrain. After returning from Bahrain I transferred to the CQB school house in Chesapeake, VA where I finished my career. After being Honorably Discharged in 2016 I moved to Harrisonburg, VA where my wife is from to spend my life with my wife and kids. In 2018 Mike Foltz and Myself opened Banded Brothers Va the Shenandoah Valley’s Premier Guide Service, from the beginning stages we knew we wanted to work with Veteran’s as a form of therapy, this is how I have coped with my own service connected disabilities. I have made it my personal mission to share my journey with other vets to keep them from unnecessary medication and possible suicide.

Banded Brothers VA is hosting a Veteran’s Day Sporting Clays Tournament with all proceeds being donated to Freedom Hunters. The shoot will take place on November 10, 2018. We have a fellow Marine, Damian Knight, now a country music recording artist coming in to play music for the event. The event will be catered by Jake’s Bar & Grill, owner Rhonda Winfield, a Gold Star Mother and author of “When Johnny Doesn’t Come Marching Home, A Mother’s Story of the Price for Freedom”, is thrilled to be able to provide food for our veterans and cause.

Cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) Increase for 2019

https://www.ssa.gov/cola/

Cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) Increase for 2019
On October 9, 2018, President Trump signed Public Law 115-258, which provides a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase of 2.8 percent, effective December 1, 2018, for Veterans disability compensation and dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC) for survivors and certain other benefits.
VA compensation and DIC benefits are retrospectively paid on the first of each month, for the previous month. This means that the 2.8 COLA increase effective December 1, 2018, will not be included until the January 1, 2019 payment.  This increase matches the COLA provided to Social Security recipients.
This COLA benefits injured and ill Veterans, their families and survivors by helping to maintain the value of VA benefits against inflation. Without annual COLAs, many disabled Veterans, who sacrificed their own health and family life for the good of our nation, may not be able to maintain the quality of life they deserve.
We thank Representative Mike Bost (IL), Chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs for introducing HR 4958, the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2018 and Congress for final passage of the bill on September 25, 2018.
Likewise, we appreciate your support for service-disabled Veterans and your grassroots efforts in the DAV Commander's Action Network, which helped get this critical legislation enacted.  Please share this information on all of your social media sites. Thank you for all you do for America's Veterans and their families.
