Position Summary For Program Director Carlsbad CA:
Program Director, Homeless Men’s Services – La Posada de Guadalupe

Manage and direct all aspects of La Posada de Guadalupe Men’s Shelter including planning, implementing and evaluating its comprehensive initiatives and strategies designed to assist homeless and very low income men throughout San Diego County.

This position will develop and manage the Shelter’s budget and review and monitor spending.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Job Duties: Shelter Management & Operations
•Maintain and expand existing program activities and develop new initiatives that foster the department and agency’s mission.
•Ensure conformity, consistency and accountability of service delivery within and across programs of the department according to established standards.
•Develop and implement program specific policy and procedure manuals.
•Ensures that all regulatory requirements are met for programs funded by federal, state and/or county funds.
•Oversee the ordering and purchasing of food and supplies for the programs.
•Maintain and increase knowledge of current trends through daily reading (e-mail and news publications) and participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training.
•Review, investigate and resolve all complaints/problems from staff members or clients associated with the program.
•Keep the Executive Director informed of any program related problems, issues, incidents and/or potential legal concerns so that the appropriate action can be taken in a timely manner.
•Conduct advisory board meetings as required by program; recruit and train members as necessary.

Staff Management
•Responsible for the hiring, supervision, evaluation and professional development of staff under direct supervision.
•Develops schedules for paid staff, and ensures volunteers staff schedules and coverage is completed, to maintain adequate personnel at the facility and to accomplish tasks and respond to client needs.
•Provides training and supervision to staff.  Supervision to include regular and ongoing monitoring of work product and work habits; performance evaluations of individual staff as required by HR; review of job descriptions as required by HR; timely reporting to HR of performance excellence or disciplinary issues.
•Maintains current knowledge of agency policies and procedures as they relate to personnel; monitor staff for adherence to policies and procedures; take corrective action as necessary to ensure staff is in compliance.
•Conducts regularly scheduled communication meetings with staff to provide direction, guidance and oversight to personnel.
•Ensures staff is fully trained and competence in performing the elements of their job as defined by their job description.

Grants and Fundraising
Participates in the organization and implementation of all revenue generating events for the program. Investigates and applies for appropriate grants for the programs.

Client Services
•Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards and ensures staff and volunteers follow same standards.
•Promote excellence customer service experience for all clients in residence at the shelter, through extensive staff training, proper application of operational procedures and policies; and response and recognition of client needs.

Financial Management
•Uses agency resources (financial and non-financial) prudently.
•Acknowledges and follows financial policies of the agency.
•Contributes to the development of annual revenue projections and meets financial goals.
•Understands budget management.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
•Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with a degree in Business Administration, Human Services or social behavioral sciences; plus 5 – 7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Minimum three years supervisory experience.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills; organization skills and conflict resolution.
•Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Software.
•Knowledge and appreciation of cultural diverse populations.
•Knowledge of addictions, mental illness, homelessness, farm workers and day laborers and men’s issues.
•Demonstrated experience in working with the homeless or low income families.
•Strong organizational and communication skills.  Ability to provide excellent customer service to all those in contact with the La Posada de Guadalupe Shelter.
•Experience and or certification in conflict resolution, harm reduction, smoking cessation, wrap-around model, substance abuse, financial literacy or other recognized relevant Life Skills programs.
•Embrace the mission, vision, values, goals and foundational principles of La Posada de Guadalupe Men’s Shelter.
•Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferable.
