FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
TIME COMMITMENT: Full-time (40 hours/week)
SALARY: $14.00 to $16.00/hour
POSITION SUMMARY For Employment Specialist San Diego CA:
The employment specialist will provide services that promote long term economic self-sufficiency for refugee participants through 1:1 coaching on all aspects of navigating the employment landscape, including interview preparation, work performance, and developing new employment opportunities and employment upgrades.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS For Employment Specialist San Diego CA:
•Complete employment / skills assessment for all newly referred clients.
•Develop individual employment plan with each client.
•Conduct coaching sessions to assess progress and assure compliance with employment plan.
•Document client participation and employment readiness and placement services.
•Assist clients with resume development and preparation for job interviews. Introduce clients to job fairs and interviews.
•Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers and businesses to create employment opportunities that match program’s job seekers employment needs.
•Promote the Match Grant and Wilson Fish programs and its job seekers to employers, businesses and the community.
•Assist in developing and organizing interviewing and hiring opportunities/fairs for program’s job seekers.
•Assist in developing strategies to meet program employment objectives.
•Provide employment onboarding and workplace orientation as needed by employers.
•Work in a collaborative manner with other department and agency staff to maintain standards of excellence and to achieve program objectives.
•Continually meet and exceed employment placement numbers required by the program.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
•Two years of experience in career services, job development, employment readiness or agency staffing preferred.
•Bachelor degree preferred.
•Experience working in food/beverage/hospitality, retail or other labor intensive industry.
•Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and high level of cultural competence.
•Knowledge of/familiarity with or ability to learn quickly the employment opportunities that are available within the community/county to assist refugees achieve successful placement.
•Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
•Commitment to the mission and values associated with the agency and the program,
including social justice, respect for others, and early employment.
•Preferred, bilingual in English and one other language spoken by refugees: Arabic, Farsi, Swahili, etc.
