Easter Seals Veterans Employment Program: Helping Vets in VA, DC, & MD

In July 2010, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment Training Service  (VETS) awarded Easter Seals Greater Washington-Baltimore Region the opportunity to take on the Veteran Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) grant over the course of three years. Each year, funds will be allotted to provide career guidance, placement assistance, and green jobs training  for eligible unemployed veterans who reside in Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Jobs may include, though not limited to, weatherization, janitorial, administrative, construction, or computer trades/IT.

The Veterans Employment Program (VEP) provides eligible veterans assistance in finding and  obtaining employment. The program provides monthly ‘Job Prep Workshops’ to educate veterans on job search strategies, resume techniques, and current labor market information, including green jobs. Workshops will include briefings or presentations from employers looking to hire veterans and an opportunity for veterans seeking employment to exchange information on job search strategies with other veterans.
The VEP and workshops are also beneficial to veterans who are actively searching for employment on their own. The program can provide support services and referrals such as, transportation, housing assistance, job coaching, mentoring, counseling, and training.
The program is open to veteran residents of: Northern VA; Washington DC; Calvert County, Charles County, & St. Mary's County, MD.
