The Vietnam Wall.

There are 58,267 names now listed on that polished black wall, including those added in 2010.

The names are arranged in the order in which they were taken from us by date and within each date the names are alphabetized. It is hard to believe it is 36 years since the last casualties.

There are three sets of fathers and sons on the Wall.

39,996 on the Wall were just 22 or younger.

8,283 were just 19 years old.

The largest age group, 33,103 were 18 years old.

12 soldiers on the Wall were 17 years old.

5 soldiers on the Wall were 16 years old.

One soldier, PFC Dan Bullock was 15 years old.

997 soldiers were killed on their first day in Vietnam.

1,448 soldiers were killed on their last day in Vietnam.

31 sets of brothers are on the Wall.

Thirty one sets of parents lost two of their sons.

54 soldiers attended Thomas Edison High School in Philadelphia . I wonder why so many from one school.

8 Women are on the Wall. Nursing the wounded.

244 soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War; 153 of them are on the Wall.

Beallsville, Ohio with a population of 475 lost 6 of her sons.

West Virginia had the highest casualty rate per capita in the nation. There are 711 West Virginians on the Wall.

The Marines of Morenci - They led some of the scrappiest high school football and basketball teams that the little Arizona copper town of Morenci (pop. 5,058) had ever known and cheered. They enjoyed roaring beer busts. In quieter moments, they rode horses along the Coronado Trail, stalked deer in the Apache National Forest. And in the patriotic camaraderie typical of Morenci's mining families, the nine graduates of Morenci High enlisted as a group in the Marine Corps. Their service began on Independence Day, 1966. Only 3 returned home.

The Buddies of Midvale - LeRoy Tafoya, Jimmy Martinez, Tom Gonzales were all boyhood friends and lived on three consecutive streets in Midvale, Utah on Fifth, Sixth and Seventh avenues. They lived only a few yards apart. They played ball at the adjacent sandlot ball field. And they all went to Vietnam. In a span of 16 dark days in late 1967, all three would be killed. LeRoy was killed on Wednesday, Nov. 22, the fourth anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination. Jimmy died less than 24 hours later on Thanksgiving Day. Tom was shot dead assaulting the enemy on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

The most casualty deaths for a single day was on January 31, 1968 ~ 245 deaths.

The most casualty deaths for a single month was May 1968 - 2,415 casualties were incurred.

For most Americans who read this they will only see the numbers that the Vietnam War created. To those of us who survived the war, and to the families of those who did not, we see the faces, we feel the pain that these numbers created. We are, until we too pass away, haunted with these numbers, because they were our friends, fathers, husbands, wives, sons and daughters. There are no noble wars, just noble warriors.

We’re looking for:
1.A Valid Class A CDL with Tanker, Doubles, and air brakes endorsements and be at least 21 years of age.
2.1 year(s) of previous experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or equivalent driving within the last 7 years.
3.Heavy Haul experience (Dump Truck, Concrete/Mix Truck, Grain Hauler) Oil Field experience strongly preferred.
4.Acceptable driving record required.
5.Legally eligible to work in the United States.
6.Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, physical, and background check, which will include previous employment check, criminal history and motor vehicle record review.
7.Experience with hydraulic systems and manual transmissions (10 speed) also needed.
Duties:
• Responsible for safely hauling materials that may require navigation through congested and confined areas in rural locations.
•Operates vehicle in accordance with Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as well as all local, state and federal requirements and Company expectations for the Fleet; maintains a clean and safe vehicle.
•Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair.
•Immediately reports any unsafe situations or service calls to Manager or Dispatch before attempting service.
•Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by Manager.
•Works closely with Managers to improve efficiency and identify problem or unsafe accounts.
•Performs all duties as scheduled by Manager or Dispatch, assisting other company drivers as directed.
•Notifies Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
•Notifies Dispatch or Manager of issues as prescribed by Service Machine protocol, including blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups or problems that may arise.
•Communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Manager.
•Completes and submits customer tickets when excess yardage must be removed.
•Positions containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced, containers are set in an upright position, and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic.
•Follows driving assignments throughout the day and completes all required documentation.

The primary purpose of the Consumer Loan Underwriter is to assist the Credit Union to achieve its mission to make a difference in our neighbors’ lives.  This is accomplished by providing outstanding service to both internal and external members and vehicle dealerships.  An important element of this outstanding service is identifying the financial needs of the member and effectively suggesting solutions that will improve the member’s financial life.  Additionally, under general supervision of the Consumer Loan Supervisor, a Consumer Loan Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and evaluating secured, unsecured and Visa loans in the Consumer Loan Department.  A Consumer Loan Underwriter promotes and maintains a positive image of the Credit Union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES for Consumer Loan Underwriter
Underwrites secured, unsecured and Visa loan applications
Evaluates all loans in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss
Understands LoansPQ (CoastHills chosen loan origination software) and their application process
Explores and offers counter options for all potential loans
Calculates income figures and debt to income ratios
Maintains dealership relationships
Explains reason for denial and explores options to members
Performs within consumer loan lending limits approved by Board of Directors
Understandings risk based lending
Reviews and understands credit reports and explains to member’s information as reported
Understands proper loan documentation and preparation
Computes interest and payments
Responds to members’ inquiries and requests; assists in completing forms and documents
Resolves members and/or dealer problems and/or complaints
Assists with existing line of credit reviews
Reviews member requests to skip or modify payments
Understands and runs Kelly Blue Books, AutoChecks, CVR’s and Check Systems reports
Assists member in understanding how their payments are posted to their accounts
Calculates payoff on vehicle loans for dealerships while ensuring member loan retention
Responds to member problems and requests, when necessary; assist with completion of forms and documents.
Follows policies and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Lending, Regulation B, Regulation Z and all other compliance regulations to ensure daily compliance.
Understands LoanLiner and Indirect Lending paperwork
Works cooperatively with members, dealers and fellow employees
Must be registered and in good standing with NMLS and renew registration each year.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES for Consumer Loan Underwriter
Performs variety of clerical duties requiring knowledge of departmental procedures
Cross-sells loan products
Cross trains in loan functions
Punctual and regular attendance
Ensures the safety and security of self and Credit Union equipment and property, including cleanliness, proper maintenance and safe work practices
Operates a variety of office equipment and machines, such as telephone, computer terminal, adding, calculating, duplicating and fax machines, printer and typewriter
Regularly attends and participates in in-house training
Performs duties as assigned by management and may be assigned to work at any branch

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE for Consumer Loan Underwriter
Knowledge and understanding of consumer lending procedures, practices and policies and credit fundamentals as would normally be acquired from three or more years of increasingly responsible related experience with two years of consumer processing experience.

State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) will be hosting an Educational Conference & Career Fair on May 6, 2017 at M.S. 53Q Brian Piccolo, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

The Conference and Fair will address student and parental concerns regarding College Grants, Excelsior Scholarships, and FAFSA applications. It will also offer STEM workshops for parents and students, and include a free tie and prom dress giveaway.

It is being conducted in Partnership with Sports & Arts in Schools Foundation, The Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation, Zion Youth and Family Community Center of Elmont, Simple College Solutions, 100 Suits for 100 Men, and Make My Mother Proud, and Queens Library. 

Riders Wanted: Motorcycle Escort this Saturday morning for Our WW2 Heroes, Our Greatest Generation

Attention Motorcycle Riders & Honor Flight Supporters. We are calling on the motorcycle riding community once again.
On Saturday May 6th, there will be multiple motorcycle escort rides to escort World War 2 & Korean War Veteran Hero’s to the Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma. This has been going on for many years twice a year, when there is an Honor Flight scheduled.  
Here’s the plan: there will be two escorts planned for the 6 Veterans
4 live in south Nassau (Lynbrook, Seaford, Massapequa, Amityville). 2 live in Suffolk (Calverton & Manorville). Luckily, they all live near each other making the 2 routes easily planned. 
These Veterans do not have family / friends available to take them to the airport to and see them off or meet them upon return. We, the riders, will be these Heroes Family on Saturday May 6th.
The Nassau Escort will stage / KSU at 0430 hrs. at the Lynbrook diner. 401 Sunrise Hwy, Lynbrook, NY 11563. Frank Bania will be RC.
The Suffolk Escort will stage / KSU at 0515 at the Home Depot in Riverhead, 1550 Old Country Road, Riverhead, NY 11901 and / or at 0445 at American legion post 924 in Hampton Bays. ALR Post 924 will be RC.

We will also have assigned cages with each escort that will transport the Veterans to the airport, the drivers also will need to be available to get these Veterans home at 11pm that evening. So not only are we escorting these Men, but we are also driving them to the airport
Riders you can show up at any stage listed at the KSU times to ride with that escort in your area
IF YOU DON’T RIDE, PLEASE BE AT THE AIRPORT AT 0600 TO MEET & GREET ALL THE WW2 & KOREAN WAR VETERANS AND WISH THEM A GREAT DAY IN DC ON THEIR HONOR FLIGHT & DONT FORGET THE WELCOME HOME AT 10PM THAT NIGHT AT THE AIRPORT TO WELCOME THESE HEROES HOME.
These escorts happen very early, so it does not interfere with any other rides or events. It is a truly amazing experience, the Veterans are our Living History, and they won’t be around for much longer, show them your appreciation, say thank you in an amazing way.  
We are losing our Greatest Generation every day, and these Heroes won’t be around very soon, so please make time for them. Please share the ride info and events, let us really show these Veterans that fought in WW2 & Korea the appreciation they deserve.
