The primary purpose of the Consumer Loan Underwriter is to
assist the Credit Union to achieve its mission to make a difference in
our neighbors’ lives. This is accomplished by providing
outstanding service to both internal and external members and vehicle
dealerships. An important element of this outstanding service is
identifying the financial needs of the member and effectively suggesting
solutions that will improve the member’s financial life. Additionally,
under general supervision of the Consumer Loan Supervisor, a Consumer
Loan Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and evaluating secured,
unsecured and Visa loans in the Consumer Loan Department. A Consumer
Loan Underwriter promotes and maintains a positive image of the Credit
Union.ESSENTIAL DUTIES for Consumer Loan Underwriter
Underwrites secured, unsecured and Visa loan applications
Evaluates all loans in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss
Understands LoansPQ (CoastHills chosen loan origination software) and their application process
Explores and offers counter options for all potential loans
Calculates income figures and debt to income ratios
Maintains dealership relationships
Explains reason for denial and explores options to members
Performs within consumer loan lending limits approved by Board of Directors
Understandings risk based lending
Reviews and understands credit reports and explains to member’s information as reported
Understands proper loan documentation and preparation
Computes interest and payments
Responds to members’ inquiries and requests; assists in completing forms and documents
Resolves members and/or dealer problems and/or complaints
Assists with existing line of credit reviews
Reviews member requests to skip or modify payments
Understands and runs Kelly Blue Books, AutoChecks, CVR’s and Check Systems reports
Assists member in understanding how their payments are posted to their accounts
Calculates payoff on vehicle loans for dealerships while ensuring member loan retention
Responds to member problems and requests, when necessary; assist with completion of forms and documents.
Follows policies and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Lending, Regulation B, Regulation Z and all other compliance regulations to ensure daily compliance.
Understands LoanLiner and Indirect Lending paperwork
Works cooperatively with members, dealers and fellow employees
Must be registered and in good standing with NMLS and renew registration each year.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES for Consumer Loan Underwriter
Performs variety of clerical duties requiring knowledge of departmental procedures
Cross-sells loan products
Cross trains in loan functions
Punctual and regular attendance
Ensures the safety and security of self and Credit Union equipment and property, including cleanliness, proper maintenance and safe work practices
Operates a variety of office equipment and machines, such as telephone, computer terminal, adding, calculating, duplicating and fax machines, printer and typewriter
Regularly attends and participates in in-house training
Performs duties as assigned by management and may be assigned to work at any branch
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE for Consumer Loan Underwriter
Knowledge and understanding of consumer lending procedures, practices and policies and credit fundamentals as would normally be acquired from three or more years of increasingly responsible related experience with two years of consumer processing experience.
