Collections Recovery Specialist

Under general supervision of the Collections Manager, a Collection
recovery specialist is responsible for performing a wide variety of
member Collections duties. A Collection recovery specialist promotes
and maintains a positive image of the Credit Union.
Some of the essential duties of the job for Collections Recovery Specialist are: Researches and analyzes data on past due/charged off loan accounts including negative shares
Contacts member through various methods, telephone, letter, and email to determine reason for delinquency or loss
Negotiates and establishes repayment plans on charge off loans for those with the intention of repayment
Uses skip tracing efforts and tools to maximize contact for our members or analyze assets to pursuit legal action
Evaluates payments being made on delinquent accounts and determine how payment will be applied
Responds to members’ inquiries and requests; assist in completing forms and documents
Resolves member problems and/or complaints
Researches account loan transactions to resolve payment errors that lead to reducing losses
Works with legal counsel for summons and complaints, liens, bank levy’s
Oversight on legal fees to ensure cost is minimized
Works with collections agencies to cure or maximize amount of post chargeoff recoveries on loans exceeding legal statute
Follows policies and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Customer Identification Program (CIP) to ensure daily compliance with current regulations
Makes collection efforts in accordance to FDCPA and the Rosenthal act of California
Qualification Requirements for Collections Recovery Specialist:
A high school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 to 3 years of experience in the field or related area.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish), highly desirable.
Knowledge of English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Ability to listen effectively
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, percentages, rates, ratio, and yields
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Ability to be bonded
Ability to perform duties accurately and timely, with frequent interruptions
Ability to promote and maintain a positive image of the Credit Union to members and employees
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machines
