Hello Lucy,

Re: NACAG role in Guam

I wanted to check in to let you know that this role has closed.  They are at their deadline to get someone in place for the role and will make offers in the next few days.  If you still have resumes coming in for the role, I’ll still take them but I will tell them about the role being closed so that they are not wondering.

Thanks very much for your help.  You got an awesome response to these roles quickly. For clients who don’t need help translating military skills  I’m going to recommend that they contact you for posting services.  I’ll contiue to work with the ones that do need help or who don’t have the time to sort thru resumes.

I’ve got a few new roles to post.  I’m getting final approval from clients and will get them to you this week.

Thanks

Marissa

Tips for getting Federal Jobs

http://www.dol.gov/odep/pubs/scheduleA/abc_Job_Applicants_ODEP_508%20compliant.pdf

Types of Preference

To receive preference, a veteran must have been discharged or released from active duty in the Armed Forces under honorable conditions (i.e., with an honorable or general discharge). As defined in 5 U.S.C. 2101(2), "Armed Forces" means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The veteran must also be eligible under one of the preference categories below (also shown on the Standard Form (SF) 50, Notification of Personnel Action). *Military retirees at the rank of major, lieutenant commander, or higher are not eligible for preference in appointment unless they are disabled veterans. (This does not apply to Reservists who will not begin drawing military retired pay until age 60.) For non-disabled users, active duty for training by National Guard or Reserve soldiers does not qualify as "active duty" for preference. For disabled veterans, active duty includes training service in the Reserves or National Guard, per the Merit Systems Protection Board decision in Hesse
v. Department of the Army, 104 M.S.P.R.647(2007).
For purposes of this chapter and 5 U.S.C. 2108, "war" means only those armed conflicts declared by Congress as war and includes World War II, which covers the period from December 7, 1941, to April 28, 1952.
When applying for Federal jobs, eligible veterans should claim preference on their application or resume. Applicants claiming 10-point preference must complete Standard Form (SF) 15, Application for 10-Point Veteran Preference, and submit the requested documentation.
The following preference categories and points are based on 5 U.S.C. 2108 and 3309 as modified by a length of service requirement in 38 U.S.C. 5303A(d). (The letters following each category, e.g., "TP," are a shorthand reference used by OPM in competitive examinations.)

* This may require you to pursue the Schedule A Letter.

NOVA MOAA BANG Meeting 30 Oct 13

Business And Networking Group

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO JOIN US AT OUR NEXT MEETING

30 October 2013
6:30 to 8:30 PM
at
The historic Clark House
6332 Barcroft Mews Drive
Falls Church, VA 22041

Our BANG meetings are open to all. Please feel free to bring friends. There will be a Spotlight Speaker presentation of general interest to the group and plenty of networking time with jobseekers, hiring managers and human resource professionals. See you at the BANG. Remember there are always “jobs in the room.”

Spotlight Speaker for 30 October 2013 will feature a presentation by: The MOAA Transition Center Staff who will provide an update on their new organization and services.

National MOAA has reorganized and merged two departments, resulting in a name change. The Officer Placement Service, known as TOPS, and the Benefits Information and Financial Education departments have merged together to form the Transition Center. The new Transition Center will serve as a one-stop shop for national MOAA members and their spouses in transition. The department will provide financial and health care education, answer questions regarding earned benefits and entitlements, assist those filing VA claims through MOAA’s new veteran service officer pilot program, and provide career-transition support through a range of self-marketing assistance. With all of these changes came some new monikers. Members who call MOAA’s Member Service Center and ask for a representative in the TOPS Department now will be transferred the Transition Center. “The name change was needed,” says Col. Terri Coles, USA (Ret), deputy director, Transition Center. “The acronym TOPS stood for The Officer Placement Service. We don’t do job placement. We also serve more than just the military officer population. We provide career transition assistance to members’ spouses, retirees, and enlisted members who attend our transition seminars.”

Directions to the Clark House
(http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/hprs/clarkhouse.htm )   The historic Clark House is adjacent to the Barcroft Plaza Shopping Center on Columbia Pike at the intersection with Lincolnia Road and Old Columbia Pike.
