Job Description For Operating Room Scrub Tech Iraq:
The Medical Support Services in Iraq (MSSI)– Iraq Program Manager establishes a clinically safe and professionally managed healthcare environment and provides primary health care as well as resuscitative surgical care in accordance with U.S. or equivalent medical standards on a 24-hour basis, 365 days of the year to Chief of Mission (COM) personnel U.S. Embassy Baghdad, serving a population of approximately 6,600 adults.

SCOPE Operating Room Scrub Tech Iraq:
The OR Scrub Technician reports to the MSSI-Iraq Program Manager and is supervised clinically by the designated site medical director at the Diplomatic Support Hospital (DSH) at the Surgeon’s work setting – normally a Diplomatic Support Hospital setting in Iraq.  The OR Scrub Technician will be assigned to treat patients in the larger DOS medical/trauma hospital locations.

Provides direct and indirect services to the surgical patient under the supervision of the General Surgeon or Operating Room Nurse and performs tasks as necessary for the efficient and effective functioning of the operating room, as well as the delivery of quality care.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHS is recognized.

All healthcare providers and medical support staff must have recent clinical experience in patient care and at least six month experience in the past 12 months

This position is notional and will be filled upon future openings.

Required Skills For Operating Room Scrub Tech Iraq
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate
Must have graduated from an accredited surgical technician program
A minimum of 2 years of experience is required or have the military equivalent training course with Certificate of Completion (i.e. 68D, HM8483, 4N1x1)
All healthcare providers must have current clinical experience in direct patient care and have worked a minimum of 6 of the last 12 months in desired career field.
Technician who has completed certification testing by the Association of Surgical Technologists is desirable
Current CPR required
Surgical technologists need manual dexterity to handle instruments quickly.
Surgical technologists must be conscientious, orderly, and emotionally stable to handle demands of the operating room environment.
Technologists must respond quickly and must be familiar with operating procedures in order to have instruments ready for surgeons without having to be told.
Technologists will be expected to keep abreast of new developments in the field.

Required Experience For Operating Room Scrub Tech Iraq
OTHER DUTIES:
Performs necessary tasks for Scrub role using technical skills
Assist Anesthesia with patient positioning.
Assures patient/personal safety by maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment
Assembly, Wrapping and Sterilization Instruments Sets as necessary
Disinfection, Decontamination and Sterilization of the Surgical Instruments
Ensure proper instrumentation for each procedure
Follows all principles of sterile technique
Loading operations of the Stream Sterilizer
Participates in all counts (instruments, sponges, sharps, etc.) as necessary
Proper Storage and Handling of surgical instruments to include testing of Biological Indicators
Assists with the maintenance of supplies and equipment
Performs other duties as assigned.
All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will document care delivered and follow up care required.
Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
Maintain the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for patients.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS For Operating Room Scrub Tech Iraq:
An OR Scrub Technician will require a favorably adjudicated Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) investigation conducted by the Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
The work week and hours/week are established by the DoS Chief of Mission.
OR Scrub Technicians will sign a CHS HCSS-I  Foreign Service Agreement (FSA) and is bound to the terms and conditions of the FSA.

Note: CHS will provide institutional malpractice insurance as well as individual malpractice policies for the all Physicians and Surgeons.

The following requirements apply to OR Scrub technicians:
Licenses or certifications are in good standing, are without restrictions, and are kept current through the period of employment.
Participate in training, (including HIPAA training) that may be required by DOS or CHS prior to deployment to Iraq.
Will complete a Foreign Affairs Counter Terrorism training course prior to deployment to Iraq for work on the HCSS-Iraq contract. Training will include: Combat First Aid, Weapons Familiarization, Defensive Tactics/Driving, IED recognition, Surveillance Detection and Hostage Survival and Personnel Recovery
Must have a valid, current U.S. Driver’s License
Must have a current U.S. Passport
Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write and communicate in English.
All shall demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic word processing programs and the CHS Medical Management System software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be confirmed by a medical examination to be “medically and dentally fit” in accordance CHS Medical Readiness Guidelines and Policies and/or as dictated by the Client
No conditions that would prevent the wear of personal protective equipment; including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor and chemical/biological protective garments or conditions that would prevent the capability of donning, lifting or carrying of up to 70 lbs. of referenced gear while running to a bunker or protected area in the face of perceived or imminent danger.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment; travel in Iraq is required by surface or air.
The climate is desert-like, hot, and prone to dust storms.
