Celebrate Independence Day with “America the Beautiful”

Written by Katharine Lee Bates and composed by Samuel A. Ward, “America the Beautiful” is one of the most well-known and beloved American patriotic songs. The song, sung by the Hillsdale College Choir in this video, celebrates the natural beauty and the “patriot dream” of the United States.

Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.”

Subject: FOODS That Promote Healing From the Symptoms of PTSD? A New Concept Cooking Show is coming soon. This Veterans Suicide Prevention Month, the VSPChannel is working to create one of the most important shows we have ever attempted to create, to date. We have stumbled across an innovative way to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, and many other ailments in veterans and it was right in our faces all along. FOOD.
This discovery became clear to me about a year ago when a Veterans Peer Specialist from the VA and I were on the phone with a Veteran who we had been trying to talk him out of putting a pistol to his head and ending his life. While talking with this Veteran for nearly 3 hours, I noticed he indicated several times, that he was so distraught that he had not eaten anything all day long. After a while, I was able to talk him into fixing himself something to eat and noticed that after he ate, his attitude and mood began to improve significantly. This got me to thinking, could it be possible that the food had been a catalyst in helping him to stabilize emotionally and so dramatically after eating? So, I went online and did a search to find out if food could help with treating mental illness and the most common symptoms associated with PTSD, anxiety and depression. To my astonishment, there was a wealth of information and research by respected organizations and doctors regarding the amazing curative powers that can be found in food to fight mental illnesses such as PTSD. My mind was on fire at this discovery.
Although we had just completed a pilot for a new cooking show, "The Cooking With Chef Dad Show",
I decided that our next cooking show would be one that would create recipes intended to promote healing in Veterans and their family members that suffer with depression, anxiety and symptoms associated with PTSD. The VSPChannel is currently initiating a campaign to raise funds to produce the first 5 episodes of this show, which has been named the "COOKING FOR VETERANS MENTAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH Show". We need your support in the coming weeks to spread the word about this amazing show and to support our crowdfunding campaign for funds to help this show to become a broadcast reality.
The response for this show, thus far, has been amazing. We have cast two Veteran Army Chef's, who are both Master of their craft, to become the on-camera personalities for this show. "Chef Andre Rush", was the top Enlisted Chef for the Superintendent of the West Point Military Academy, and now works at the White House and prepares nutritionally balanced meals for the President of the United States, the first family, their guest, and staff. ( Andre can dead lift 700 pounds and is built like a brick house). Chef Charles Johnson worked alongside Chef Andre Rush while at West Point and went on to become an Instructor for the Fort Bliss Culinary Arts Program. (Charles can dead lift any recipe book designed to promote good health, and Andre if need be). These two outstanding chefs will be preparing recipes with only the best ingredients to show Veterans and their family members how to prepare easy meals with selected ingredients designed to promote mental and physical wellness, and family oneness.
So, please, spread the word about the power of Food in fighting major symptoms associated with PTSD and support our Indiegogo.com crowdfunding campaign to raise money to produce this innovative, life saving show that will start on or about September 25, 2016.
See the attachment to this email and share as needed, there are links to potentially life saving information for all Veterans during this Veterans Suicide Prevention Month on how food can begin to assist in healing their PTSD.
Lets help save Veterans from the debilitating causes of suicide that can be helped with proper nutrition.

A great video. Semper Fi - Rescue workers fly 92 military dogs home after they serve our country overseas

What a great place to get your next dog!

The dogs of the military sometimes get overlooked. They’re soldiers too!

In this short video, a brief documentary entitled “Coming Home,” we can see 92 contract dogs coming home from the Middle East. It’s a 7,000 mile journey filled with long delays, vet visits, and other stops along the way.
Welcome home!

‘A Soldier’s Memoir”

Up and coming country singer Joe Bachman wants to send a message to you. He wants you to know what our veterans have gone through and what they, upon returning home, continue to go through. In “A Soldier’s Memoir,” the music video you will see below, Bachman does just that. Beyond the heartfelt lyrics and vivid imagery, the video includes telling interviews with veterans who have returned from combat. That alone had us in tears.

VIETNAM POWs . . 40 YEARS LATER

So powerful, and one of the best video's I have seen Thank you and the tears

This video is about 12 minutes long but it is a very well-produced report on the honoring of Vietnam POWs.

This is a great video of our military guys who were held in North Vietnam prisons.  I had never seen this before and I had no idea how these guys felt all these years about Nixon.

Why not share this magnificent video with your friends.

Veterans: One of the Greatest Untapped Human Resources

Veterans: One of the Greatest Untapped Human Resources

Throughout history, veterans have proved to be tremendous economic drivers as both employees and employers. Veterans possess numerous qualities that translate success in today’s workforce. The reasons why veterans make outstanding employees and business owners are numerous, but here we will focus on three proven battleground qualities.

Resiliency

The notion of resiliency refers to one’s ability to cope with, adapt to, and overcome challenges. History has proved that veterans have frequently triumphed over great adversity, which has translated into relentless pursuit to problem solving while on the job. For example, veterans have experience in mission critical situations which demand endurance, stamina, and flexibility. Some have overcome personal disabilities through strength and determination. This type of perseverance and adaptation are easily transferable qualities that are rare to find and certainly complimentary to any employer.

Technology and Globalization

Because of their experiences in the service, veterans are usually aware of international and technical trends pertinent to business and industry. They can bring the kind of global outlook and technological savvy that all enterprises of any size need to succeed. It is not uncommon for veterans to have been exposed to highly advanced technology and technology training. Veterans have the ability to utilize this type of technical training work experience to leverage knowledge across numerous disciplines at work while applying technology based solutions to different types of organizational challenges. In addition, veterans possess the intangible quality of an accelerated learning curve.

Teamwork

The notion of relentless teamwork is frequently correlated to the military veteran, but perhaps not fully explored. Military duties involve a blend of individual and group initiatives. As a result, veterans understand how genuine collaboration grows from mutual respect and a sense of responsibility for one’s colleague. Incorporating attention to detail while working in groups of all sizes is a very important attribute which saves time and money. In addition, understanding the broader vision of how each piece of the puzzle directly relates to an overarching objective is a powerful quality of veterans. Having gained a unique perspective on the value of accountability, veterans have an understanding of their place within an organizational framework.

Where Can I tap into this talent?

Veterans Employment Center (VEC): One-Stop-Shop Connects Veterans, Transitioning Service Members, and their Spouses to Employers.

VEC is the first government-wide project that brings together a reputable cadre of public and private employers with real job opportunities, provides tools to translate military skills into plain language, and helps build a profile that can be shared – in real time – with employers. The Veterans Employment Center, an integrated, online tool connecting veterans, transitioning service members and their spouses with both public and private-sector employers, is the result of an interagency effort to improve, simplify and consolidate the current array of employment resources for veterans. Additionally, this will provide one comprehensive database of resumes for employers who are seeking to leverage the skills and talents of veterans, service members, and their spouses.

The VEC is an excellent resource for employers seeking Veteran talent and can help employers:

  • Make a public commitment to hire Veterans
  • Post job opportunities
  • Search resumes to quickly identify the right candidates
  • Download tools like the Guide to Hiring Veterans to learn how to find and hire veterans and support their success in the workplace
  • Make an Employer Commitment on the VEC – Launch your public relations campaign    to hire veterans
