This is my journey from a Gulf War Vet to a Hot Yoga Teacher by MaryJo Santander
I am a trained barber stylist, a mother, a wife, a yoga teacher, and a gulf war vet. After exiting the U.S. Air force in 1995, I did my best to integrate into civilian life. I went to a trade school on the G.I. Bill and became a trained Barber stylist. I continued working in my trade for 20 years. During those years I suffered from anxiety and other related issues. I wanted to be proactive so, I decided to attend a Mindfulness parenting class at the Sepulveda Veterans Hospital in Ca. This proved to be life changing. In the class they taught me how to use yoga and mindfulness techniques as a way to break free from the anxiety. At the same time a friend invited me to go to a hot yoga class in Woodland Hills, Ca at a studio called Malibu Sun Yoga. After practicing yoga there for 2 years I became a yoga teacher. I cannot speak for others but for myself this has become a way of life. I want to encourage vets, male and female to come try our studio and if it’s something that clicks with you as a person consider a career as a yoga teacher. The  studio is starting a 200 hour training on May 15th, please see flier attached for details. Fitness has always been a part of my life. Now, I get to give back and in my small way hope to help vets and others along the way.

•The fundamental topics of yoga philosophy and history, including an introduction to historical classical yoga literature: the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and Yoga Sutras of Pataljali and How to apply the ancient principles of yoga to your lifestyle today.

Introduction to Ayurveda and meditation:
•The physical asana in terms of proper alignment, benefits & contraindications of yoga posture sand the foundation of anatomy.
•A proven method of sequencing the asana and pranayama to create polished vinyasa flow. Instruction on giving verbal, visual and physical adjustments. Focus on verbal queues, language refinements and the art of voice for a smoothly crafted yoga class for both beginning and advanced students
•Graduates will be able to register with Yoga Alliance at the RYT-200 Level.

Malibu Sun Yoga

HOT YOGA TEACHER TRAINING - Woodland Hills, CA 91364 – Part-Time Position
Would you like to train to teach HOT yoga?
We need yoga teachers at the Malibu Yoga Studio in Woodland Hills you will pay only for taking classes at a discounted rate followed by a unpaid internship of 1 month or 16 hours of teaching when you learn the material you will be paid as independent contractors to teach at our studio.

Your compensation will be $20 a class, free yoga and discounts on yoga products. The requirements are that you teach 2 classes a week, be able to do the poses and have a clear speaking voice, this is a part time position, formal ballet or gymnastic experience is helpful.

Classes are in the mornings and afternoons, you will find our schedule on line at the website below. The initial training is very intense; you can go at your own pace but will continue to pay for classes until you are able to teach.
