Spotlight Speaker for 28 May 2014 will be: LTC Lisa Rosser, USAR (Retired) and CEO of The Value of Veterans. LTC Rosser is a16-yesr human resources professional and a military veteran who spent 22 years in the active Army and Army Reserve. She served in support of operations in the Gulf  War, Somalia and Bosnia. In 2007 she combined these backgrounds and founded a training and consulting firm called “The Value Of a Veteran”.  She has made it her mission to help companies understand what military veterans have to offer an organization, how to translate military skills into civilian positions and how to market to and source military talent. LTC Rosser’s topic will be: "Advice from the Small Business Trenches: What to Think About When Considering Entrepreneurship after the Military." At its essence, entrepreneurship is about identifying a problem that needs a solution, and then creating/developing/introducing a product or service that provides that solution.  This session covers Lisa's journey from the military to the world of small business ownership. She offers advice on how to determine if you have the risk tolerance to be an entrepreneur and how to approach starting a business (and what kind of business should you launch?). She makes you think about whether you should start a business from scratch, buy an existing business or look into franchising as a path. Lisa will also take your questions during the session.

Directions to the Clark House (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/hprs/clarkhouse.htm )   The historic Clark House is adjacent to the Barcroft Plaza Shopping Center on Columbia Pike at the intersection with Lincolnia Road and Old Columbia Pike. Look for Harris Teeter and Starbucks in the shopping center on the corner at the traffic light. Upon entering the Barcroft Plaza Shopping Center stay on service road to east end of parking area. The Clark House is located at the entrance to a townhouse complex.
