San Bernardino Vet Center

The San Bernardino Vet center and the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino have formed a partnership to help Veterans address civil legal problems that can affect health and well-being. There are no income limits and the veterans can be facing legal issues in any County in Southern California.

In order to link Veterans to the Legal-Medical Clinic have them call the San Bernardino Vet Center at (909) 801-5762 and request to be referred to the Legal-Medical Clinic. The Legal-Medical clinic will decide eligibility.

Some of the legal issues they can help Veterans address are:

  • Benefits: appeal denials of food stamps, health insurance, cash benefits, and disability benefits.
  • Housing: secure housing subsidies; improve substandard conditions; prevent evictions; protect against utility shut-off.
  • Education & Employment: Secure specialized education services, prevent and remedy employment discrimination and enforce workplace rights.
  • Veterans & Immigration: Resolve veteran discharge status, clear criminal/credit histories; assist with asylum applications.
  • Family Law: Secure restraining orders for domestic violence; secure adoption, custody and guardianship for children.

Transitioning from the military? Here are some tips you may want to consider.

VETERANS, SPOUSES AND ALL OTHER JOB SEEKERS.... Tip 2 down applies to you too!

1. Attend the TAP Class. You can do it multiple times
2. Register with the local workforce in the state or states where you want to reside
3. Do a master resume with everything on it. You won’t ever give this in an application but use it as a reference to create targeted resumes for job applications
4. Do targeted job searches. Look for companies you want to work for with jobs you qualify to do. There is no one size fits all. Really do some soul searching and decide if the job is something you WANT to do long term before applying.
5. Don’t get upset when you get rejected. Take it as a learning experience and move on.
6. Be realistic about what you’re worth. What you bring to the table should be worth 110% of the pay you’re expecting. The company will barely pay for 100% skill set so you have to over exceed their expectations. You’ll move up fast this way and more companies will want you. You may have to start low but again you’ll move up fast.
7. Always know who your company’s competitors are. This comes in handy once you’re working for them. You can either use it as leverage to move up or take your skills elsewhere and move on.
8. Be flexible. This means you may have to work in a state that you don’t want too or do a job you don’t 100% love to start but it will help you grow and eventually land soft.

The VA home loan is the best deal

The VA home loan is the best deal, bar none

When you’re looking to buy a home, the VA home loan benefit has amazing cost savings and services for Veteran and service member borrowers

Are you in the market for a new home? Or maybe just considering buying a home in the future? You’re in luck!  The VA home loan is available for eligible Veterans, service members, and certain surviving spouses. And, no down payment is ever required by VA.

VA backing means that you will save even more over the life of the loan; for example, no Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) is ever required on VA-guaranteed loans. That often amounts to a cost savings of hundreds of dollars per month. Imagine what you and your family can do with that extra money!

VA has guaranteed over 25 million home loans between the program’s inception in 1944 to June 2020. Even today, the borrowers using their VA home loan guaranty enjoy outstanding benefits, such as limited closing costs and competitively low interest rates.
Over 1,500 lenders offer the VA-backed home loan. Be sure to talk to several so you can compare rates, fees, and closing costs. When ready, you can negotiate these costs and pick the lender with the terms that are right for you.

And don’t worry about closing on time. VA-approved appraisers can estimate property value just as timely as you’d find with any other mortgage loan. Our notice of value (NOV) gives you insight into what the home is worth. Under VA rules, you don’t have to buy a home valued below the contract price. You can decide to renegotiate or walk away from the sale.

We want to keep you in control of your financial decision. Put simply, the VA home loan can put you in the home of your choice while saving you lots of money! So don’t pass up your chance to save thousands of dollars on the purchase of your home. Choose VA!

History of the VA home loan guaranty

The VA home loan benefit was created through the 1944 Serviceman’s Readjustment Act, which is known more colloquially as the “G.I. Bill.” The Act, signed into law by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on June 22, 1944, represents a pillar of the benefits earned by U.S. military service members and Veterans through their commitment and service to the country. It is among the most widely praised and popular benefits administered by VA and has helped put millions of eligible service members and Veterans into their piece of the American Dream: their home.

For more information on the VA home loan benefit, eligibility requirements, and how the VA loan guaranty can help save you thousands of dollars on the purchase or refinancing of your home, visit VA’s website, here: https://www.benefits.va.gov/homeloans/.
