Disabled Veterans Bring Entrepreneurial Opportunity
to the greens of Camp Pendleton

The leadership and local chapters from across Southern California are mobilizing to join forces for a special quarterly meeting of the statewide non-profit CA Disabled Veteran Business Alliance (http://www.cadvbe.org). Taking opportunity directly to veterans at Camp Pendleton’s Eagle’s Nest Event Center, located on the Marine    Memorial Golf Course, 4th St and Golf Course Rd.

Not only does this event continue to support our State’s DVBE community in Southern California, but with dismal unemployment statistics for veterans, those returning now from service in Afghanistan are urged to attend to consider creating their own jobs. The opportunity for entrepreneurial veterans has never been greater and the CA DVB Alliance is ready to help businesses get started by taking opportunity directly to the troops. The Camp Pendleton event is set for Monday, November 5, 2012 from 11 am-3 pm.

A free lunch will be provided sponsored by Southern California Gas Company.

The State of California is a leader in providing direct contract support to disabled veteran business and works directly with the CA DVB Alliance to assist disabled veterans.

Together with state agency buyers, diversity specialists, finance, business education and training experts and disabled veteran leadership from the CA DVB Alliance, any veteran or disabled veteran, can come learn directly from experts how to get certified and get into business for themselves. Speakers at Camp Pendleton interested in contracting with veteran-owned companies at this meeting include Lockheed Martin, VISN21, San Diego Unified School District, DGS and representatives from Southern California Gas and Metropolitan Water District (MWD).  CA DVB Alliance Executive Director Rich Dryden will be on hand to personally cover issues in Sacramento that affect the DVBE programs, as will Alliance Board members, past and present.

Anyone who served in the U.S. Armed Forces should learn more, as many of the programs providing goals for purchasing from veteran firms were created in the early 90’s, but are available to all Californians who served, and current veteran or disabled veteran business owners.

For more information contact the Alliance at 916-446-3510 or visit www.cadvbe.org.

Coups For Troops'

As a new stay-at-home momma of boy/girl twins, our founder Stephanie Almasy had to find a way to save her family money.  Several of her girlfriends were doing really well at couponing, saving their families hundreds of dollars each month.  So Stephanie attended a local coupon class in February 2011 to learn the tricks of the trade.  At the end of the class, the instructor briefly mentioned that US military families overseas could use coupons up to 6 months past expiration. In March, Stephanie created Coups For Troops to get the word out to US couponers, “don't throw away your expired coupons!”

Coups For Troops' first shipment of coupons went out to twenty-six families in April 2011.  Just a few months later, they had almost eight hundred military families signed up to receive coupons in over 10 countries. With so many soldiers in need, Coups For Troops is now offering two ways for folks to donate their expired and unwanted coupons.

1.  Direct Mail is their program that matches US couponers with military families stationed overseas.  Couponers can correspond through email with “their family” and send their expired coupons right to the soldier's door.  If you're interested in Direct Mail, please email  directmail@coupsfortroops.com

2.  Couponers may send their expired coupons to one of Coups For Troops' satellite locations/drop off locations across the country.  CFT will then package up those coupons and ship them to coupon swap groups organized by their coupon recipients overseas.  These swap groups meet several times a month and share coupons with multiple military families.  Coups For Troops believes this promotes community amongst US families stationed abroad.

Please visit CoupsForTroops.com for more information about our organization, including a list of frequently asked questions, or find us on Facebook at Facebook.com/CoupsForTroops.

Out of the Darkness 5K Walk to Prevent Suicide - Embarcadero Marina Park North, Seaport Village San Diego - October 20, 2012

MARINE EXECUTIVE ASSOCIATION MEETING - WEST

Join us for the October 17th meeting of the Marine Executive Association – West.
The meeting will be conducted at the Camp Pendleton South Mesa Club (now the Pacific Events Club) in the Iron Mike Room. No need to RSVP.
Just show up. Meet at the bar at 1730, guest speaker at 1800 followed by introductions of attendees. Adjourn no later than 2030.

Our October speaker is Beth Freeman. Most of you will know Beth from recent meetings.
In May of 2012, Beth Freeman created a consulting business that assists clients with becoming business owners through the franchise model. Her company, Freeman Franchise Investment Services, evaluates each client’s financial status, business experience, personal goals and future financial goals in order to match them with the ideal franchise ownership option. For Beth, her business meets both of her
objectives: to be her own boss and to assist others in obtaining the dream of business ownership.
In 2005, while living in Okinawa, Japan with her Marine Corps husband and their children, Beth served on the Kubasaki High School Football Booster Board, where she was voted as the treasurer. Subsequently, that connection led to Beth being asked to interview for the initial position of Family Readiness Officer by the Commanding Officer of Combat Logistics Battalion 4. She served successfully in that capacity for 18 months, until the Marine Corps moved her husband to Camp Pendleton, CA.
In May, 2010, Beth interviewed for and was offered the position of Family Readiness Officer for 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion.
She now works with a national clientele, educating individuals from various backgrounds on the complexities of choosing a franchise that will best meet their professional and personal goals. Please contact Beth anytime for an appointment.
Beth now lives by her motto: Own a Business ~ Own Your Future.
From the I-5 take the Camp Pendleton/Oceanside Harbor exit. Follow the exit to the main gate. If you do not have a base car sticker, be prepared to show your driver’s license so the sentry can scan it.
At the first light – Wire Mt Rd – turn right.

Hope to see you there.
