KEY REQUIREMENTS:

DUTIES:
If you are selected for this position, you will serve as a Deputy Assistant Federal Security Director for Screening (DAFSD-Screening) for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As the deputy and principal advisor to the Assistant Federal Security Director (AFSD) for Screening, you will assist in managing a staff of security screeners, checkpoint supervisors, and screening managers who conduct screening, manage screening operations, and administer laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to TSA's aviation security program. Together you will work to protect the traveling public by preventing dangerous or deadly persons or objects from being transported onto an aircraft. Duties include but are not limited to:
•Participating in briefings concerning security sensitive information and communicating with subordinate supervisors and employees regarding any weaknesses in the security screening process and making recommendations for improvements.
•Exercising authority with managerial responsibilities over staff in a 24/7 environment.
•Making major recommendations concerning significant internal and external program policy issues affecting the overall organization, such as scheduling, screener FTE allocation, selections, process control, developing performance criteria, and identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among employees.
•Evaluating and reporting on the progress of work.
•Serving as an advisor or facilitator in coordinating team initiatives.
•Providing assistance in tactical and strategic planning including development of deployment plans, investment analyses, capital budgets, and acquisition plans.
•Reviewing and analyzing checkpoint screening equipment and maintenance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
To qualify for the SV-J Pay Band, equivalent to GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-I Pay Band or GS-13 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience would include:
a) assisting in managing aviation screening operations, administering laws, regulations and policies pertaining to aviation and transportation security, and applying knowledge of aviation security and screening standards for airport employees and passengers;
b) evaluating and making recommendations concerning policy issues and aviation security operations; and
c) evaluating airport risk assessment policies and procedures.
Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
