    Operating screening equipment to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft;
    Performing searches, to include hand-wand and pat-down searches;
    Controlling terminal entry and exit points;
    Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries;
    Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment which includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive and angry passengers, in order to preserve the professional ability to identify and locate potentially life threatening or mass destruction devices, and to make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.

DUTIES:

    Serving as a point of contact for travel regulations and policies; making travel arrangements; and verifying and certifying travel authorizations for assigned office.
    Monitoring, evaluating, and ensuring work is effectively performed within the immediate area of responsibility, including providing guidance and assistance to managers on a variety of issues.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To qualify at the SV-D Pay Band (equivalent to GS-3-6), you must meet one of the qualification requirements (A, B, OR C) outlined below:
 
A. Experience: If you are qualifying based on experience, your application must clearly outline at least six months of progressively responsible general experience. General Experience is defined as clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Such experience includes filing and maintaining simple office records, using common office equipment such as personal computers and copy or fax machines, maintaining time and attendance records or performing customer service duties such as answering phone calls, greeting visitors and taking messages.
 
OR B. Education: At least one full year of full-time academic study in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
 
OR C. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for this position, and may be computed by first determining your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the band level; then determining your education as a percentage of the education required for the band level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. Applicants who meet the qualifications listed above based on education or a combination of education and experience MUST provide proof of education such as a list of completed college courses or the date and school of degree including the number of semester or quarter hours or a transcript from an accredited college or university. This Transportation Security Specialist position is located within the Security Services and Assessments Division (SSA), Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (OLE/FAMS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If selected for this position, you will apply TSA policies, directives, and regulations to coordinate security assessments and liaison with law enforcement and other security agencies.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Applying policies, directives, and regulations (security and non-security) that relate to TSA operations and programs to create or implement policies in support of TSA's operational needs.
  • Performing complex, in-depth studies and coordinating working groups on significant law enforcement issues which have impact on national transportation operations, programs, and functions.
  • Providing professional guidance in monitoring and evaluating existing transportation operations security and related law enforcement programs.
  • Developing and implementing innovative approaches and long term improvements.
  • Developing and sustaining cooperative working relationships and facilitating cooperation within the organization and customer groups.
  • Coordinating with representatives of other international governments, Federal, State, and local agencies associated with TSA assessment activities.
  • Providing technical assistance to TSA management and liaison to other Federal, State, and local transportation operations and law enforcement agencies on major vulnerabilities involving transportation infrastructure. 

    The major duties described above reflect the full performance level of this position. Typically, the lower Pay Band (Pay Band I) performs the same duties but will receive more guidance and training or projects and work assignments may be less complex.
