Forgotten Workforce: Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, Working Dogs

Lyre Newell

Most of us believe that the workforce is entirely made up of humans, which is wrong! Haven’t you seen before, in real life or on TV, dogs performing tasks in hunting, bomb detection, alerting people, etc.?
More than lovely pets, each day, dogs excel as workforce members. Forever and ever, dogs are very appreciated members of the workforce.
Service Dogs
Highly trained to assist disabled people, service dogs do a great job! You name it, and service dogs are ready to help. Disability situations such as autism, diabetes, difficulty seeing, hearing, walking, and more.

These camera-equipped dog goggles keep special-forces canines connected to their handlers

But the doggles don’t come cheap.

Fusil and his gugglets Concepts
When Thomas was a special forces dog handler in the gendarmerie—a French militarized police force—he found it worrisome when he lost sight of his canine, Fusil. The pooch was trained to follow a laser beam that allows the handler to point to objects or places that are far away, and to work at night or other low-light conditions. But when the dog went out of view, he could not, of course, see what its status was.
“I had no way of knowing where he was, what he was seeing, or of giving him an order without raising my voice,” he says. “I just had to wait until he came back.”
So Thomas—who prefers that we not reveal his last name as he is still on active duty in the gendarmerie—started thinking about how to resolve these problems. He wanted to be able to see where the dog was, and to give it orders that only the animal would hear. And the system had to be comfortable and easy for it to wear.

Veterans need VHIC for in-person Commissary, Military Exchange, MWR access

The Defense Department has announced expanded Commissary, Military Service Exchange and MWR access Jan. 1 and established a standard for physical access to military installations.
Veterans who are eligible and want to take advantage of in-person benefits must have a Veterans Health Identification Card, or VHIC. Primary Family Caregivers must have an eligibility letter from VA’s Office of Community Care.
Veterans use VHICs for identification and check-in at VA appointments, but will also use them for base access under the new program.
Veterans eligible solely under this act who are eligible to obtain a Veteran Health Identification Card must use this credential for in-person installation and privilege access. The card must display the Veteran’s eligibility status (i.e., PURPLE HEART, FORMER POW or SERVICE CONNECTED).
Veterans eligible solely under this act who are not enrolled in or are not eligible to enroll in VA health care, or who are enrolled in VA health care, but do not possess a Veteran Health Identification Card will not have access to DoD and Coast Guard installations for in-person commissary, exchange, and MWR retail privileges, but will have full access to online exchanges and American Forces Travel.
Medal of Honor recipients and Veterans with 100% service-connected disability ratings are eligible for DoD credentials under DoD policy.

Article Bio and Service

            Hello,
My name is Brad Cooper and I would like to introduce myself. In doing so, I will start of by providing background information about myself and why I would like to act as a liaison helping you address your difficult tax and accounting questions. I am a native of Camden, SC and graduate of the Camden High School class of 2004. After high school, I went into the US Air Force and attended Winthrop University. During my stint as a student at Winthrop University, I was a dual major with a concentration in both Pre-Law and Corporate Finance.
Simultaneously, I also completed an Associates Degree in the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) with a concentration in Electrical and Mechanical Technology while in military service for a 9 year period. After earning my Bachelor's of Science, Bachelor's of Arts and Associate Degree within 4 years, I then moved away to attend Massachusetts School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. While there, I was an exceptional student and active participant in the local Boston community and local courts. After completing my law school studies in 2015 and earning my Juris Doctorate, I finished my academics studies at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego California earning my Master of Laws (LLM) with a concentration in both domestic and international taxation and tax planning; graduating with honors. I am the oldest son and have a younger brother Matthew Goodwin who is a graduate of Coastal Carolina and is now an active duty member of the U.S. Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA.
I am a tax and accounting professional with over 8 years experience in finance and accounting; specifically taxation. Some specific areas include domestic and international taxation, SALT taxes, individual tax, business tax, payroll taxation, tax consultation and planning, tax research and resolution for HNWI. I am a dedicated professional who has demonstrated interest in my niche career field and has also gone on to obtain multiple licenses and certifications in tmy area and studied and worked with some of the best educational programs and corporations recognized around the world.                   Currently I am seeking to assist more active duty, guard and reserve, veterans, retired veterans and veteran owned businesses. I would like to assist these groups in the areas of tax preparation, small business bookkeeping, audit representations, resolving international tax filings and issues,  addressing post and pre-deployment tax related questions and overall address tax and accounting related questions individuals or business owners may have. I recognize the need for access to tax and accounting professionals who can help direct individuals and small businesses through the intricate maze of tax and the accounting fields. I would like to extend my services to my military community in hopes of helping our men and women in uniform and there families be a little less concerned about the aggressive powers the local, state and federal tax authorities possess.

State Veteran’s Benefits

Find veterans benefits offered by each state. Did you know that state, city, and community programs also offer a range of veteran benefits and programs for qualifying vets and their families? There are also private groups that offer help with either direct benefits or resources to find veteran benefits. It’s important to know that there is no central repository of information for all such programs, but there are plenty of resources you can use to look up what is available in your area. See below for many ways to find and access these benefits.
