Information from a reliable source - US NAVY Veteran in need of help – Camarillo, CA
My name is Chris Formby, US Navy Veteran with a few needs that I truly need help with.
Here's my situation:
I have an older car that ran strong but was overheating and determined that the head gasket was leaking and needed replacing.
I tried to have it repaired by a couple guys that were cheaper than a shop and the machining was not done correctly.
I got the car back and the car ran sort-of and didn't overheat anymore, died every time I came to a stop, the timing seemed off and a loss of compression.
I did both a dry and then wet compression test myself and determined that the bottom end of the engine was good. I then adjusted each valve correctly with feeler gauges and when piston #1 was at Top Dead Center, the cam was 180 degrees off(exactly opposite of what it should be). So I took the belt off, rotated the cam to lineup with TDC and put everything back together and it would turn over but not start, which means loss of compression in the valves.
1995 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl. 2.2L VTEC F22B1 engine
The head needs to removed and machined correctly and need new valves to match up with the head and then put back together.
If there's a mobile mechanic out there that can help me, it would be so awesome and make such a difference in my life. I am willing to assist them in the repair also if necessary. The estimates I've received are approximately $900-1200.
I cannot afford to do this because I've been out of work since I graduated from The Lee Strasberg Institute in LA.
I have looked for a job close by but no luck. I have a job offer on hold in Oxnard, but cant get there due to my car being broken.
I really need some help and I know there's help somewhere for me.
Sincerely, Chris Formby, US NAVY Veteran.

Army Opens Ranger School to Women
WASHINGTON — Sep 19, 2014, 4:05 PM ET
By LOLITA C. BALDOR Associated Press
Associated Press
The
Army is opening the door for women to go to Ranger school, in one of
the first steps toward allowing women to begin moving into more grueling
combat jobs.
Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno said Friday that he believes he will be able to put women in the Ranger course next spring.
While
completing the leadership course would let women wear the coveted
Ranger tab, it does not let them become members of the Ranger regiment.
Currently only men can be in the 75th Ranger Regiment — the special
operations forces unit based at Fort Benning, Georgia. Joining the
regiment requires additional physically, emotionally and mentally
challenging schooling.
Women can now begin volunteering for the course and will also be asked to serve as advisers and observers.
By
January 2016, the military must open all combat jobs to women or
explain why any must remain closed. The Pentagon lifted its ban on women
in combat jobs in 2012, but gave the military services time to
gradually and systematically integrate women into the male-only
front-line positions.
Special
operations jobs are some of the last to be addressed, as commanders
review the qualifications needed and assess the impact of bringing women
in.

September issue of New Mobility Magazine – Assistance at the Pumps In Florida
Mark Boatman | Aug
04, 2014 |
Ben Ritter points to the
decal that shows the number he can call for assistance in fueling up.
Beginning this past July
1, all gas stations in the state of Florida must post a phone number on their
pumps that motorists who require assistance can call to alert an attendant of
their presence. And Ben Ritter is the force behind that new law.
Ritter, a Marine veteran and T6-8 paraplegic, discovered the difficulty of pumping gas in the Sunshine State when he moved to Florida from New Jersey, where it’s illegal for drivers to pump their own fuel. The Americans with Disabilities Act mandated pumping assistance if at least two employees are working at a station but Ritter quickly realized there remained another problem. “The ADA doesn’t state how a driver with a disability is supposed to be able to connect with an attendant,” he says.So he gathered phone numbers of area stations and called them on his cell phone when he needed assistance, which worked so well that he explored whether it would be possible to have all gas stations in his county post their phone numbers.

Toward this goal, in
2010, Ritter met with veteran organizations, disability groups and businesses
in Hillsborough County to discuss the development of an ordinance. One of
the attendees, Mike Aldred, sales manager for the JH Williams Oil Company, soon
placed decals with phone numbers on a few pumps at one of his CITGO stations.
After receiving increased business from drivers with disabilities, he placed
decals on all of his pumps.
In 2011, placing phone
number decals on each gas pump became law in Hillsborough County and was
eventually passed in six other counties. Next, a bill was introduced into the
2013 Florida legislature — but was quickly defeated because it called for
penalties against gas stations who didn’t comply. Oil companies were
particularly concerned about the possibility of drive by lawsuits. The bill
passed in 2014 and went into effect on July 1. “This is the first law of its
type in the nation and I hope it sets a standard for the rest of the states to
follow,” says Ritter.
