Operations Management – Transportation Manager for Various Locations


This is an exceptional first-line field management opportunity with outstanding growth potential. Transportation Managers direct transportation operations at a railroad terminal. Duties include employee safety, customer service, budgets, transportation plans, and on-time operations while supervising in a unionized environment. This opportunity will require long hours, large amount of travel, frequent outdoor work (regardless of weather conditions) and relocation several times during your career. Starting compensation begins at $53K and can vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location.


Successful candidates will be goal oriented, highly motivated, and demonstrate strong analytical and leadership capabilities. Critical to success is the demonstrated ability to handle adversity and manage conflict. Highly desirable experience includes:
Similar work conditions (heavy industry, outdoors, production)
Safety sensitive surroundings
Fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment
Shift work


Accountabilities:
Manage safety: employee, public and customer
Supervise work crews. Coach and develop employees
Manage on-time transportation operations, executing transportation plans
Manage the terminal transportation plan to meet all business objectives
Manage the terminal's expenses within budget limits
Plan and coordinate daily activities with other functional groups
Monitor work force levels to ensure all jobs are filled and covered during shifts
Monitor operations and take needed corrective actions
Communicate and reinforce company policies and procedures to employees


Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
A Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related
1 year(s) experience / knowledge managing people or leadership experience


Required Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
A Bachelor of Science degree or Bachelor of Arts degree conferred by 05/01/2012
1 year(s) experience / knowledge in transportation field operations
Advanced communication skills both oral and written
