Stand Down 2011 & Milicruit Veteran Job Fairs - THIS WEEKEND 9/9 & 9/12 (CT & Virtual/Nationwide)

iSTAND DOWN 2011 AND MILICRUIT’S SEPTEMBER CAREER FAIRS SHOW BOTH LOCAL AND NATIONAL SUPPORT FOR OUR VETERANS

Written by Call of Duty Endowment on August 29, 2011

Both local and national efforts are underway to get our veterans back to work. The Connecticut Department of Labor’s Office for Veterans’ Workforce Development and Milicruit are hosting their own job fairs the weekend of September 9th. What are already looking to be two great events, these combined events will offer our veterans opportunities to meet and speak with over 140 employers, federal agencies, and private organizations.

Republican American explains that Stand Down 2011, the job fair hosted by Connecticut’s Department of Labor’s Office for Veterans’ Workforce Development, is an annual one-day outreach and support event for those veterans who are homeless, unemployed, or have medical conditions. With last year’s outstanding attendance of 1,300 veterans, this year’s event hopes to do even better, with more than 50 participating organizations and agencies.

The event will take place on Friday, September 9th, from 7am to 3pm. For more information, such as veteran registration, please click here.

Milicruit, a provider of virtual career fairs for veterans, will host its national event that same weekend, on Sunday, September 12th for veterans and military spouses.  More than 90 Fortune 500 companies are expected to participate, including CitiBank and Waste Management.

In partnering with Milicruit, CitiBank has promised to hire as many as 500 veterans over the next 12 months. Similarly, Wes Reel, a representative from Waste Management explains that, “Waste Management hires a veteran every day of the year and one in twelve of our employees is a veteran. Our Milicruit partner plays a big role in helping us attract quality talent.”

The Call of Duty Endowment believes that it is important to offer our veterans as much support as possible when trying to find employment, and offering opportunities both on the local and national level are signs that our nation is beginning to do just that.
