Montgomery County Fallen Heroes Dedication

Montgomery County will be dedicating its Fallen Heroes Memorial and the Justice Plaza between the County's Executive Office Building and the Judicial Center along Route 28 on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at 1:00 pm. The Fallen Heroes Memorial is an eternal flame dedicated to the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives on the field of battle. We are naming the plaza the Justice Plaza symbolizing the Circuit Courthouse that it is adjacent to and the justice for which the Fallen Heroes died. CDR Everett Alvarez, USN (Ret.), former POW during the Vietnam War, and Montgomery County resident, will be raising the POW/MIA flag as a part of the ceremony. The County Executive and Council President will also be issuing a proclamation declaring 2015 the Year of the Veteran and the Veterans Families in Montgomery County.  The content and tone of the ceremony will be a "one time only" event; once the flame is lit and the POW/MIA flag raised, they will be neither extinguished nor taken down. Their placement along Route 28 will ensure that they are constant reminders to the public that our liberty and justice were paid for at a great price. The public is welcome to attend. Sign language interpreter services and other accommodations will be available upon request at least 3 business days in advance by contacting: Betsy.Luecking@montgomerycountymd.gov  or at 301-777-1246 or via MD Relay at 711
