Overview:
The Employment Development Manager position requires a strong sales, marketing and/or public relations background and is responsible for identifying and working closely with prospective employers to build ongoing relationships in order to cultivate employment opportunities for veterans enrolled in the employment services program. The position involves constant communication with employers through cold calling, visiting companies, conducting on site presentations, participation in hiring events, career fairs and networking opportunities focused on developing employer contacts.
This position will interact closely with veterans to identify their employment goals and connect them to jobs that are appropriate to their background, skills and interest. The Employment Development Manager be integral to the Veteran Employment Services Team to facilitate job readiness of participants including preparing them for employment interviews by providing complete background information on positions, companies, industry trends and employer expectations. This job requires excellent presentation skills, high energy, teamwork and the ability to work in a performance based system with a proven track record of meeting employment outcomes. Candidates must have an already established job bank.
Responsibilities:
• Develop collaborative opportunities with large, medium and small businesses/employers in high-potential, high-growth segments of the labor market toward providing employment opportunities for people living with disabilities and veterans.
• Provide key support in the development of entrepreneurial ventures related to providing work opportunities to people living with disabilities and veterans.
• Strengthen SUS’ position with existing employers; provide creative approaches to retaining and expanding employer relationships in key business areas.
• Provide direct business development support to SUS programs and services where consumers/individuals are seeking employment within Veterans Division.
• Develop and deliver internal training and presentations related to the veteran community highlighting the benefits of employment and current opportunities.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of important labor market trends and factors external to SUS affecting employment for veterans.
• Collaborate with CUNY Employment to Education initiatives.
• At the direction of the Director of Veterans Services, participate in Veteran Service Organizations employment initiatives and industry organizations; maintain a high level of visibility.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience including business development and or entrepreneurial experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, business, finance, or social services field preferred.
• Sufficient industry and technical knowledge to communicate effectively with a variety of industry groups and key stakeholders.
• A strong understanding of employment programs for the Veteran Community.
