Hiring Our Heroes Los Angeles - Job Fair for Veterans Only (July 10)

Hiring Our Heroes Los Angeles
Sony Pictures Studios (Culver City, CA)
Sunday, July 10 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Veteran only opportunity ~ Everyone MUST pre-register

The U.S. and Los Angeles Chambers of Commerce will be co-hosting a premier hiring fair at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Hiring our Heroes Los Angeles will undoubtedly be the biggest and best of the 100 hiring fairs that we have committed to hold across the country through March of 2012.

We are pulling out all the stops in Los Angeles to make a difference in the state of California, which has the highest population of unemployed veterans in America with over 100,000 of our nation's heroes looking for jobs.

Veterans should pre-register on-line at: http://www.regonline.com/HiringHeroesinLA

We are working closely with Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training and Service (DOL VETS), Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), United Way, and Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) to ensure this is a premier event for the 200 employers and 1500 veterans and military spouses expected to attend. On the heels of the First Lady's Joining Forces announcement in April and the MSEP signing ceremony hosted by the Department of Defense and the U.S. Chamber in June, Hiring our Heroes Los Angeles will affirm the Chamber's commitment to include military spouses in all 100 of our veterans' hiring fairs.

To make this hiring fair even more impactful and memorable for military families Hiring our Heroes Los Angeles will be part of a larger event being organized by ServiceNation: Mission Serve to bring together military and civilian communities. Other activities will include a service project that will benefit the children of deployed service members.

Participating employers should have job opportunities available and will be expected to report the following metrics to the U.S. Chamber after the hiring fair: number of applications received; number of veterans and military spouses offered jobs; and most importantly, the number of veterans and spouses hired by your company.

Companies that are interested in sponsorship opportunities for the full program of events in Los Angeles should contact Ross Cohen at rcohen@bethechangeinc.org or 323-683-4005.

In the coming year, the U.S. Chamber will host 100 hiring fairs with local chambers of commerce across the country with the only measure of success being jobs for the one million unemployed veterans in America. If you are interested in being a national or regional sponsor of Hiring our Heroes, please contact me at HiringourHeroes@uschamber.com for more information.

Can you believe it - most likely due to the "Royal" visit, they're limiting the event to 1500 veterans. How about the rest of us unemployed veterans that number in the 10s of thousands?!?!?

I'm curious about the follow-up to this job fair. It was a great idea with a really good turnout, but nobody seems to be concerned with whether it actually worked or not.

It certainly made the organizers look good - hell, royalty was in attendance - I only ask because the fair itself is good only if the effort paid off.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect at least 35% of the attendees to have had positive results, but there's no way of knowing due to a lack of follow up. I'm betting no one will read this. I guess I'm just venting.
