SCOPE For Basic Intermediate Advanced EMT Kabul:
The EMT is clinically supervised by the site lead or other physician extenders on the work site and ultimately reports to the ALiSS – Afghanistan Program Manager.
The EMT will be assigned to treat patients in a medical/trauma hospital and assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician or physician extender.
Respond to emergency calls, assesses the situation, obtain a basic medical history and physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the scene and during transit to the hospital. Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. EMT communicates with the paramedic and the Medical Officer about the patient’s condition, status, and arrival time.
All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHS is recognized.
Required Skills For Basic Intermediate Advanced EMT Kabul
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:
•High school diploma or GED
•Completed an approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, and certification as a Basic or Advanced EMT.
•Hold and maintain a current unrestricted U.S. (State) license as an EMT Basic, Intermediate or Advanced EMT.
•Hold and Maintain certification with the National Registry of Emergency
Medical Technicians (NREMT) at either the EMT Basic, Intermediate or
Advanced EMT Level.
•Hold and maintain BLS certification.
•Have a minimum 2 years’ experience
•Participate in training, (including HIPAA training)
•All health care providers and medical support staff must have recent
clinical experience in their field providing direct patient care for at
least 6 months out of the past year
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES For Basic Intermediate Advanced EMT Kabul:
•After receiving the call from the dispatcher, the EMT drives the
ambulance to address or location given using the most expeditious route,
depending on traffic and weather conditions and observes traffic
ordinances and regulations concerning emergency vehicle operation.
•Shall utilize additional care providers in all medical facilities to
assist with patient administration; vital signs; post-operative,
intravenous, and intramuscular medications; cardiopulmonary
resuscitation and resuscitative trauma care; along with other duties as
determined by the primary medical providers (physicians, nurse
practitioners and physician assistants) that do not exceed scope of
practice.
•EMT must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within an EMS Operations.
•Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
•EMT performs a variety of tasks.
•Assists with the managing of day to day activities and prioritizing tasks.
•Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
•Complies with all applicable CHS standards and guidelines.
•Treats patients in accordance with medical standards of care for the
appropriate Scope of Practice and abides by approved CHS EMS Protocols.
•All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will document care delivered and follow up care required.
•Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups
to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals,
resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to
new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
•Maintains the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the
precepts of the American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for
patients.
•Other duties as assigned.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS For Basic Intermediate Advanced EMT Kabul:
•Must have a valid, current U.S. Driver’s License
•Must have a current U.S. Passport.
•Must sign a CHS Foreign Service Agreement (FSA) and is bound to the terms and conditions of the FSA.
•Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write and communicate in English.
•Work hours are based on a 72 hr. work week; typically six 12 hour days but other variations may apply.
•Requires a favorably adjudicated Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT)
investigation conducted by the Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic
Security.
•Shall Attend a Pre-deployment Counter Terrorism training course prior
to deployment to Afghanistan for work on the ALiSS program
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS For Basic Intermediate Advanced EMT Kabul:
•Must be confirmed by a medical examination to be “medically and
dentally fit” in accordance CHS Medical Readiness Guidelines and
Policies and/or as dictated by the Client
•No conditions that would prevent the wear of personal protective
equipment; including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor and
chemical/biological protective garments or conditions that would prevent
the capability of donning, lifting or carrying of up to 70 lbs. of
referenced gear while running to a bunker or protected area in the face
of perceived or imminent danger.
•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment; travel in Afghanistan is required by surface or air.
•The climate is desert-like, hot, and prone to dust storms.
