Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Veterans

Ohio Veterans Bonus deadline near for Gulf War Era veterans

Ohio Veterans Bonus deadline near for Gulf War Era veterans

November 26. 2013 12:25PM
COLUMBUS - Ohio veterans who served during the time of the Persian Gulf War have until December 31, 2013 to apply for the Ohio Veterans Bonus and receive the thank you for their service awarded them by Ohio's citizens.

The Ohio Veterans Bonus continues for veterans of the Iraq War, who have until December 31, 2014 to apply. No deadline has been announced for veterans of the Afghanistan War and all veterans who served after October 7, 2001.

"I personally urge any eligible veteran, particularly those who served during the Persian Gulf War, to apply for the Bonus immediately. It's a very personal thanks to every one of our veterans who served during our recent wars from all the people of our great state," Ohio Department of Veterans Services Director Tim Gorrell said. "To everyone in our veterans' community, please reach out to these veterans and make sure they're aware. And if anyone has a friend or a family member who served, let them know."

The Ohio Veterans Bonus is open to veterans of the Persian Gulf War era as well as the eras of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, regardless of where they served. However, the amount available is higher to those who served directly in the war zones. It is also open to the next of kin of those who were killed in action or died of disease as a result of in-theater service. The Bonus is not subject to federal or state taxes, and can be used for any purpose.

To date, almost $59 million has been paid to over 70,000 veterans and family members.

Ohio voters approved the Ohio Veterans Bonus by an overwhelming margin in November 2009, to be awarded to veterans of the Armed Forces and military service members who served during the periods of the Persian Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The specific criteria are below:

. Military service of more than 90 days active duty, not for training, anywhere in the world during the following periods:

- August 2, 1990 through March 3, 1991 - Persian Gulf; deadline to apply is December 31, 2013

- October 7, 2001 through a date to be determined by the President - Afghanistan

- March 19, 2003 through December 31, 2011 - Iraq; deadline to apply is December 31, 2014

. Eligible veterans and military service members must have been Ohio residents at the time of their entry into the military, and must be Ohio residents at the time they apply.

The bonus pays $100 a month to veterans who served in the Persian Gulf theater, or in the countries of Afghanistan or Iraq, up to a maximum of $1,000. For veterans who served elsewhere, the payment is $50 a month up to a $500 maximum. Veterans medically discharged due to injuries sustained in combat can receive $1,000, plus up to $500 for months of service elsewhere. Family members of those killed in action or who died from disease as a result of their in-theater service can receive a bonus of $5,000 plus whatever the service member was eligible for, up to a total of $6,500.

For more information or to apply:

. Call toll-free to 1-877-OHIO VET (1-877-644-6838) option 2

. Visit any county veteran service office (see www.ohiovet.gov for an interactive map of the county offices). These offices can also provide information about all federal and state veterans' benefits, and assist veterans in the application process.

. The department also provides information about the Bonus through its social media and at veterans' events, and has advertised the program in print and broadcast media, as well as in veterans' publications and a mailing to veterans whose service likely occurred during the Persian Gulf era.

The Ohio Veterans Bonus continues a tradition of bonuses to reward Ohio veterans that dates back to the Civil War. Those other war bonuses are now closed.

Types of Preference (Federal Employment)

To receive preference, a veteran must have been discharged or released from
active duty in the Armed Forces under honorable conditions (i.e., with an
honorable or general discharge). As defined in 5 U.S.C. 2101(2), "Armed
Forces" means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The
veteran must also be eligible under one of the preference categories below
(also shown on the Standard Form (SF) 50, Notification of Personnel Action).
*Military retirees at the rank of major, lieutenant commander, or higher are
not eligible for preference in appointment unless they are disabled
veterans. (This does not apply to Reservists who will not begin drawing
military retired pay until age 60.) For non-disabled users, active duty for
training by National Guard or Reserve soldiers does not qualify as "active
duty" for preference.
For disabled veterans, active duty includes training service in the Reserves
or National Guard, per the Merit Systems Protection Board decision in Hesse
v. Department of the Army, 104 M.S.P.R.647(2007).
For purposes of this chapter and 5 U.S.C. 2108, "war" means only those armed
conflicts declared by Congress as war and includes World War II, which
covers the period from December 7, 1941, to April 28, 1952.
When applying for Federal jobs, eligible veterans should claim preference on
their application or resume. Applicants claiming 10-point preference must
complete Standard Form (SF) 15, Application for 10-Point Veteran Preference,
and submit the requested documentation.
The following preference categories and points are based on 5 U.S.C. 2108
and 3309 as modified by a length of service requirement in 38 U.S.C.
5303A(d). (The letters following each category, e.g., "TP," are a shorthand
reference used by OPM in competitive examinations.)

This Weekend

Hi everyone--

We have just two weekends left to put together our greatest effort yet in brightening the spirits of our brave troops over the Christmas season.   Think for a moment about what your emotions might be like if you were deployed at this time of year.   We can actually make a difference by letting the troops know that they are loved, appreciated and that we are praying for them!

PLEASE don't let yourselves be left out of the campaign.   Here are ways in which you can still contribute:
1.   Please continue to pray for our troops and their families.
2.   Please take a look at the attached schedule and join us at the booth in the courtyard.  We need more help, and it's a lot of fun!
3.   Please join us on Dec. 4 at the packing party.  So many have said they are coming, but so few have emailed me to confirm.
4.   Bring a box or loose product of the kinds of things the troops cherish.  The flier with the list is attached.
5.   Write a check to assist with postage costs.   Make it out to "Bayside" and write "military" on the line in the lower left corner.

Thanks and blessings to all,
Greg

Always Best Care Senior Services – Franchise Opportunities

You've chosen to explore franchise opportunities with Always Best Care Senior Services - one of the fastest growing Senior Care franchise systems in the United States.

We invite you to learn about the booming market for senior care and how Always Best Care meets the needs of seniors every day. With a proven track record since 1996, Always Best Care is one of the most sought after franchises in the fastest growing, recession-proof market in America.
It’s a fact:  10,000 people turn 65 in the USA every day!

Who We Are
Since 1996, Always Best Care has been providing non-medical in-home care and assisted living finder services. We're now adding skilled home health care in select markets. We began franchising in 2007, and now have more than 180 franchised territories across the United States.
We’re looking forward to learning about you as you learn about us. We want you to be sure that Always Best Care is right for you – and we want to be sure that you’re right for Always Best Care, too. Our discovery process will answer those questions for you and for us. We promise to provide you with the process leadership to enable you to make the right decision, at the right time, and for the right reasons.

So – let’s get started!

The Continuum of Care
The need and desire to age in place is a primary driver of the senior care industry.  Always Best Care takes it even further by providing a "continuum of care.”  Unlike most other senior care companies who offer only a single service, Always Best Care provides everything from a simple daily telephone reassurance program to compassionate in-home care, to more comprehensive skilled home health care (in select markets) and assistance in exploring and finding the right senior living options.  Our continuum of care means Always Best Care franchisees have a series of revenue streams that all flow from the same referral sources.

As an Always Best Care small business franchise, you’ll not only have an opportunity to build a business, but your business will be changing people’s lives for the better. The satisfaction our franchisees derive from making a difference in people’s lives is probably the single most driving factor in their selection of Always Best Care to be their business partner.

National Strength. Local Service.

Always Best Care combines national strength and standards with local accessibility and personal service. Our franchisees are leading the way in meeting the needs of individuals and families in cities and towns throughout the country.

We invite you to learn more about the business opportunities at Always Best Care, our history, systems, culture, programs and support.  In every way, we strive to exceed your expectations … always.  We provide a combination of local and national support that’s unmatched in the senior care industry.  Look through our website to learn about what we do and how we support our franchisees.  Then give us a call.  We’ll do our best to answer all your questions, and to give you a thorough understanding of what it means to be a business owner with Always Best Care.

Please contact an Area Representative to find out more information on owning an Always Best Care Franchise, we would like to assist our veterans in this program through our partnership with VetFran.

National Wreath Project 2013 - Please help!

Subject: National Wreath Project 2013 - Please help!
 Dear Friends,

Last year the SGT. MAC FOUNDATION and the NATIONAL WREATH PROJECT placed 7,000 wreaths on graves at Quantico and Gettysburg  National Cemeteries. This year we have committed to placing 8,000 Wreaths between the two Cemeteries. We are committed to placing 6,400 Wreaths at Quantico National Cemetery, where Sergeant Eric McColley is interred.  We have also again committed to placing  over 1,600  wreaths on every headstone in the  Gettysburg National Cemetery (also known as Soldiers National Cemetery). This will enable us to place a wreath on EVERY headstone in the original section of the Cemetery at Gettysburg. We would  To accomplish this project, we need to raise just approximately $ 64,000.00.
We would sincerely appreciate any assistance that you could provide in funding this endeavor. The wreaths and bows cost $ 8.00 each and are provided at cost by GIANT FOOD of Carlisle, PA. Transportation of the wreaths from Gettysburg to Quantico, VA is provided generously by ABF FREIGHT SYSTEMS. Everything else is provided by volunteers. 100% of every dollar donated will go to the purchase of wreaths.

You are invited to visit the Sgt. Mac Foundation web site at WWW.SGTMAC.ORG for details and photos of how THE NATIONAL WREATH PROJECT began as well as photos of last years program.
Please consider assisting us in this most worthy tribute to our Veterans. We are looking for contributions and sponsors by individuals, businesses, Veterans organizations and anyone else interested in helping us to honor our deceased and fallen Veterans.

You are also invited to join us in person for this program. This year we will meet at the Giant Food Store on Route 30 in Gettysburg, PA at 0800 on Friday December 6th  to tie the bows on the Wreaths. We will then take a break and meet at 1:00 PM at the Gettysburg National Cemetery at the Taneytown Road entrance. After a short ceremony we will place the Wreaths. The following day, Saturday December 7th we will meet at 10:00AM at the Quantico National Cemetery and place the Wreaths there.
Please e-mail or call me if you have any questions or would like to discuss your participation. Thank-you in advance for your consideration and support.

Best regards
Stan Clark
