Flag Day

Flag Day, also called National Flag Day, in the United States, a day honoring the national flag, observed on June 14.

The holiday commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag. Flag Day is celebrated on Monday, June 14, 2021 in the United States.

Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses.

The day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored so that it might be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way. Flying the American flag upside down is considered by many, including those who have served our country in uniform, to be disrespectful.
The U.S. Defense Department says the flag should only be flown upside down “to convey a sign of distress or great danger.”
