CalVet Suicide Prevention Webinar

Dear Fellow Veterans and Veterans Advocates,

On behalf of the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) and the Minority and Underrepresented Veterans Division (MUVD), I am honored to inform you of our upcoming Suicide Prevention Webinar.

Rising suicide rates among service members and veterans over the past decade have raised public and professional concerns. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. military. The effects of suicide go beyond the person who acts to take his or her life: it can have a lasting effect on family, friends, and communities. CalVet launched an initiative tailored toward suicide prevention efforts by providing tools and resources for veterans and their family members.

Join us on Friday, July 24, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for our Suicide Prevention webinar. The CalVet MUVD and Veterans Services Division have collaborated with the VA Central California Health Care System, AV Vet Center, and U.S. VETS Outside the Wire to provide a free webinar that will cover an interactive conversation about suicide prevention. Furthermore, we will discuss how the stressors of the COVID-19 crisis and how it can cause emotional distress or anxiety which lead to suicidal thoughts. Additionally, veterans will have the opportunity to learn about state and federal benefits they have earned.
