Laboratory Manager for Afghanistan
Job Purpose:
Supervise, train, or direct lab assistants, medical and clinical laboratory technicians or technologists, or other medical laboratory workers engaged in laboratory testing.

Duties:
Performs and reports analyses of all quality control, proficiency and patient specimens in all lab sections.
Maintains all records of clinical testing.
Maintains all required quality control records and adheres to the quality control program.
Collects patient specimens as needed.
Alerts DPM Clinical Operations of exceptional patient reports and quality control results.
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and reports them to the laboratory supervisor/manager/director.
Continually strives to make the best use of time organization and coordination of scheduled work.
Attends laboratory in services and meetings as required.
Demonstrates ability to maintain equipment in an assigned work area assuring that it is in a safe and working condition.
Demonstrates the ability to recognize deficiencies within the work area and corrects immediately.
Follows laboratory procedures as indicated.
Consistently completes all work assignments, as directed or scheduled.
If necessary, works with other employees to complete scheduled work.
Readily shares knowledge and expertise.
Pursues training and development opportunities to maximize job competence.
Addresses patients, visitors and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner; displays courtesy at all times.
Readily assists co-workers without being asked.
Works at establishing a good rapport and a strong professional work relationship with all clinic personnel; maintains appropriate interdepartmental communications.
Always provides direction to patients in a courteous and positive manner.
Communicates clearly to external and internal contacts.
Presents ideas, concerns and issues verbally so that others clearly understand what is being communicated.
Shows willingness and ability to accurately hear, understand and reflect upon what others are communicating.
Maintains a clean work area.
Maintains adequate inventory, with attention to expiration dates and lower overhead.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Programs to include: Word, Excel and Office
Ability to manage other clinical staff members
Ability to assist with policy and procedure development

Requirements:
Active AMT, ASCP or CSMLS: Medical Technologist certification or completion of U.S. Military Medical Technology program and equivalent experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or in a related science

MLT may also be considered if there is a strong management background
