HUD Project Scoring Panel: Call for Volunteers

Sacramento, CA Steps Forward needs your help!

Sacramento Steps Forward needs your help!  Please see the message below regarding the opportunity to participate in reviewing and scoring project applications for new projects and the past performance of certain federally-funded homeless housing and services projects (HUD Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance grants).  The panel will rank programs and recommend programs for funding.

If you've already responded to this call for volunteers, thank you!  You'll hear from HomeBase as soon as HUD opens the competition and meeting dates can be determined.

Sacramento Steps Forward Calls for Volunteers!

Serve your community and influence homeless housing and services
in Sacramento!
Our community is working hard to address homelessness; this is your chance to contribute to a solution!

Who:
Anyone with an interest in homelessness-related issues in Sacramento, including local government employees, service providers, current and formerly homeless individuals, or community members, especially those who have experience funding or providing homeless housing or services.
No prior experience in evaluating programs is necessary.

However, panelists must not have a conflict of interest. Panel members must not have any affiliation with (e.g. be employed by, a client of, consultant to, etc.) any of the programs that the panel will evaluate.  If you think you may have a conflict, we will be happy to let you know whether you qualify to serve on the panel.

What:
Participate in reviewing and scoring project applications for new projects and the past performance of certain federally-funded homeless housing and services projects (HUD Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance grants).  The
panel will rank programs and recommend programs for funding.

When:
In late July, August or September, panelists will attend a two-hour training and will receive project materials, which they will have approximately one to two weeks to read and consider.  Panelists will then meet for up to two days to discuss and score the programs.  All told, panelists should plan to spend about 30 hours on this project.

Why:
Because homelessness concerns everyone in our community!  We need your help to prepare the application for the millions of dollars in federal funding that makes these homeless housing and services projects available to the most vulnerable among us.

Important Note:
Volunteering now is NOT a final commitment.  We are thrilled that you're interested in helping, and we will contact you soon (once HUD announces dates) with final dates to confirm your availability and that you are not conflicted.

Thank you for your consideration and service!

Please forward this email to others that may be interested.

Please do not hesitate to contact Homebase, the organization that facilitates this process, if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering.

How Recruiters Review Your Resume

 How Recruiters Review Your Resume

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope all is well.  Over the past week a major concern of career seekers
has come to my attention.  It appears that applicants are being overlooked
for career opportunities.  Here is what the problem is: as applicants, you
are not grabbing the attention of the recruiter as you should.

Recruiters take approximately 10 seconds to scan your resume.  They are
looking for what qualifies you to work in that position.  If you have ever
paid attention to how private sector position descriptions are formulated,
you will find that 95% of the place the qualifications at the bottom.  The
first 10 seconds of your resume will list your qualifications (Google resume
temples).

Your job on your resume is to give the recruiter for any position that you
are applying for the reason to go beyond their 10 second review.  Think of
like this, you're at home watching television.  You're going through
channels.  You may stop and read a description or something on the screen
may prompt you to continue watching.  Recruiters do the same with resumes.
